Searched the entire forum, but get inconclusive results. I am going to be changing the front tire tomorrow and also do the front forks at the same time. I do have a m/c lift, but do I need an adapter just to lift the front of the bike? I know it just takes a few minutes to make one from 2x4's, but I am just too lazy to go about making one.

Will sliding the lift towards the front of the engine and jacking up the bike and strapping it down work? I will probably use a few blocks of wood to support the back tire if needed.

TIA.

you just need to lift the front high enough to get a pair of jack stands under the crash bars.  I use a piece of 2x4 a car floor jack and a helper.  I built one of the adapters for the car jack but don't use it because its a PITA.

If you have a bike lift, no, you don't need the adapter. You can lift the bike high enough to pull the forks if necessary. And the tire only needs to be JUST off the ground. (Well high enough to clear the fender in the front). I changed all my fronts this way. cooldude

Alright....slid the jack under front of the engine, jacked the bike up. Worked perfectly, rear tire on ground, front just about the right clearance to get the tire off. Should have my MC-II installed tomorrow.

I know this comment is late on this thread, but when I pull my front wheel using my Sears lift I place wood blocks under the rear tire to keep it from tipping backwards.

Might buy the adapter sometime in the future or may end up making one out of 2x4's in my garage. For now the lift worked perfectly fine to raise the front of the bike and work on my forks and change the tire.
