How many full turns of adjustment, settings can be made with the Progressive 440? I can only make 3 full turns and my hands quit working from old injury. (broken fingers and thumb)
Would it be easier to take them off and adjust, then reinstall? I've bottomed out two up recently with no gear. These shocks are a pain to adjust on the bike. Am I doing something wrong?

Doug, there are supposed to be 10 full 360 turns available.  Mine have always been a bitch to turn also, mainly because of being hard to reach/grip.  Take the bags off, use the lift to try to unload the shock, with the rear tire just touching (not hanging on the shocks either), spray something up under the top ring, Nitrile gloves may give better grip, use a strap wrench if necessary.

I never tried it off the bike, but it would seem you would have to chuck them in a vice.

Supposedly you count the threads that appear on top when turning down the shocks, I just counted full turns from softest setting from factory, and recorded it in my shop book.

My HDs on the big IS have never been off the lowest factory setting (no threads showing), my supervalk with Std Duty springs are at three turns (or so) but need a couple more after 5-6 years.... crap.

Hey Jess, Good to hear from you...and Thanks cooldude
We were just speaking of you this morning, Andrea loves those gloves you gave her and the weather is starting to get to a point where she can use them again. We will be taking a beach/dinner ride this evening.

Get a rubber strap wrench. Easy to adjust and no marks.

Thanks Daniel, I actually tried my old rubber strap wrench and it broke. Old dry rotted rubber. Maybe time for a new one.

I got the shocks adjusted and took advantage of the bike being up on the jack for another deep cleaning and wheel polishing with White Diamonds. James and I got caught in the rain coming home from Brooksville and she was filthy.

Wheels came out pretty good

This wheel was Willows spare, he helped me out in a pinch and it now has a new lease on life in Florida.

I'm glad I asked about adjusting these shocks, it sure was easy doing it the correct way.

I'm sure there's a spec of dust somewhere.... but I can't see it.   cooldude

You probably have it all buttoned up again, but I was going to mention that when adjusting shocks, you may want to leave the bags off for a few short rides till you are happy where they are set.
