Hi Valkyrie Riders My first Valkyrie is dying on me......anyone who may has a used 97-2001 engine (of course good tranny and clutch basket) in a good shape, could you please let me know. Will appreciate further info like mileage, what year, was running or not, where, asking price? Seems Valkyrie is becoming like an addiction..... Thx Moe m.kma at Mailcity.com

Hey Moe,what exactly is ailing your valk motor? These things are really hard to kill.
what he said. You got some splainin to do here. What year is it? How many miles? What are the problems it's exhibiting? How long has it been sitting with out being run? Are you 1st 2nd 3d etc etc owner? And contrary to what this sounds like-we are friendly and want to help. With some information you will be surprised how quickly your particular problem can be cured. RIDE SAFE.

If you're just looking for parts and not technical help, the proper place for this is the classifieds message board, not the tech board.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the prompt responses....really appreciate that.
My engine is not gone, it is the transmission to be more specific. It started with a ruff noise every time I pull the clutch, on idle for first gear. Once I shift to first gear...noise disappears and starts moving no issues. I changed the clutch bearing (part number 21 I guess on the clutch basket diagram). Changed to full synthetic engine oil and drove one trip 600 Km.....barely came home.
Noise now is away louder, even on all the gears while shifting. My mechanic who replaced that bearing told me he found small metal parts (like a debris) on the main shaft in the clutch basket upon removing the main socket. Engine idle and goes to any RPM loaded or unloaded (in gear or not) no issues at all and very smooth. However, once in gear there is a little grinding noise on any speed.
Hope I am not telling my life story, and the above could make sense.....seems to be very rare according to couple of Gold wing mechanics and Honda dealer thus far!!!
Still.....anyone selling a used 97 to 2001 engine.....please let me know.
Thanks, Moe

Any year engine will work('97-'03) regardless of what year or model yours happens to be. Something else had to bring this about because we have a bunch of riders with bikes well past the 100k mile mark.

Are you sure the debris isn't the remains of rivets from the clutch plates? ??? Did your mechanic make any observation regarding your clutch plates? Some search here will unearth tales similar to what your describing. FWIW

Rebuild your clutch as Hoser and others have suggested. Any debris in that part of the engine is usually the rivets. Unless it is extremely fine debris, it will not pass the clutch housing filter to get into any other part of the engine.
