Hi, Have had my 97 Standard for many years. Moved to Florida 4 1/2 years ago from Michigan where I ran the VRCC club for 5 years.

After I got to Florida I was ill for a while and the bike sat for long periods of time and has not not a lot of attention.  It started but when put under load it bogs down and does not accelerate.  Can't get it much over 25mph.

I have run several cans of Seafoam thru it as I puttered around but I only got a small improvement.

I would love to start riding again, I need MAJOR direction on how to proceed and how to fix this.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Am in the Winter Park area.

THANKS!!!

Wow are you in luck.  He might shoot me for directing you to him, but John Schmidt lives near you.  I'm sure he can help if he has the time.  If you have time and the inclination it is not that hard to remove the carb bank as a whole unit and then turn it upside down and remove the bowls and jets and clean all the passages.  Change the small hoses on the side of each carb also.  Usually you will not have to take the tops off the carbs, just do the jets and all the passages.  Most likely the slow jets are clogged.  They are only 32 thousandths in diameter and any trash will stop them up.

BANG!  Grin  Seriously, I don't mind helping out. I would prefer to help do it here since I have a fair collection of tools and a wheel chock to hold the bike upright. I usually try to make it a learning event for the owner by having them do a good portion of the work. I'll send a PM with my phone #.

PS: Rude, I meant to tell you....I live on Golfside Drive. Go to the end of Ranger Blvd. and turn left, follow that street until it changes to Golfside a couple turns later. #1531

Welcome Rude. You may want to tell us your real name as I hate calling people rude  Grin. I believe I met this gentleman at work at the HD. I'm glad he decided to hop on the board. We talked about the Florida Board and how much help it can be. So, if this is you, glad you found us...if not..welcome anyway. John has been a huge help to me and taught me so much about these fabulous machines. His "fair" collection of tools for the bikes includes tools that Honda doesn't even have.  cooldude

Welcome Rude, from Naples area.
+1 on John being able to provide guidance. A few PM's back and forth and I was able to rework the carbs and desmog the phat gurl.
Just finished the dark side change over after talking to a few of the guy on the forum, and I'm really happy with the results.
You'll find answers to your questions right here.
