I have a RedEye kit and am attempting to separate the carbs.  So far I was able to get the rods out of one side to take a look.  They do have some powdery corrosion but not bad at all.  I am not prying on the carbs very much and they are not separating.

Are there any links / vids out there that show how to take them apart without breaking something?

The three carbs are held together by metal hollow pins that corrode. The red eye kit includes plastic pins to replace the metal ones. Don't worry about wrecking the pins. I spent most of a day trying to pull 3 carbs apart from each other. Go big early. I used wooden shims. Penetrating oil. Lots of wiggling. But in then end, i had one pin that i had to drill.  I used a bit slightly bigger than the inside dia and smaller than the outside dia. About half way through the pin, the bit bites hard enough to spin the pin lose. If i had to do again, i would find a long drill bit right from the beginning.

The fuel rails that connect the carbs have o-rings that will eventually leak if they are old. If you have the carbs off, now might be a good time to replace those. The down side is that you have to get the carbs separated...

I know this is an old thread but it came up in my search and I wanted to add my experience as a complete carb noob. My 4 short outside dowels were seized solid. After trying the useless little brush that came in the redeye kit, and trying to pull it with a tap as suggested in the kit, I had to take more extreme measures. I tried using bolt extractors but they just stripped out, and a self tapping bolt with a closed end wrench between the bolt head and the dowel so I could hammer on it but it wouldn't move. In the end I had to use a self tapping bolt, screwed in to plug the dowel so I could leave it soaking in penetrating fluid. Then I put a long 1/4 inch bolt through from the opposite side so it was against the self tapping bolt. A lot of light taps with a small hammer eventually got it moving and out with no damage so far. Best of luck to anyone else trying this.

Mase you need to vacuum ck the air cut off valves too. I have also seen several of the o rings go bad on the air cut off valves . so I would separate the carbs. call me if you need instructions it is not that difficult.
