I bought a '97 Valkyrie Standard this summer and put 2000 miles on it.  As winter is coming and my season is over, I started fall maintenance on it.  Things I found done improperly.

1. Rear axle bolt tightened so tight, an impact was needed to loosen it.
2. Air cleaner looked like it had never been changed. (52000 miles)
3. Oil drain so tight it needed an impact wrench.
4. Bad vacuum lines.
5. Spring clips missing from vacuum lines.
6. Holes in pinion cup plugged.
7. Splines on rear wheel and pinion cup caked with crusty stuff.

Still looking for more problems, nothing fatal, but could have been with time.  This is why I do my own checks every fall.

Good that you got a look at it before anything goes wrong. As long as the splines are good your regular maintenance should make her last forever.

Either called neglect or I don't give a crapola itis.  2funny Have a look at front and rear brake pads. Nice to have if you need to stop. Look at brake and clutch hydraulic fluid. Should be a light straw color. Look at upper shock bushings. If not centered-replace. Have fun with yeer Phatt Ghurl when you is done.  cooldude RIDE SAFE,

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction.  When I do things like that I can order all the parts at the same time to save on shipping.
When you do it yourself, then when you're ready to go you know it's done right.  You can ride safe and confident. cooldude

I would replace the cover set in the petcock. Then check it annually.
