97 Standard, 130,000 miles.  About three years ago, the stock petcock failed on a trip in Colorado on a Saturday afternoon. After about four hours of trying about everything, we finally reversed the spring and all was good. I now have to turn off/on the petcock all the time. About a year or two ago, I was running out at different times. I used to run out, get 4.0 or 4.1 gallons of gas. Then I started getting 4.1, 4.8, all different amounts. Something was leaking with the other side where the ball bearing is.  Well today, I finally changed the petcock.  The old petcock was staring at me. I drilled out the rivets (took awhile), finally got it apart. There is a small spring, a ball bearing, and two o-rings in there. I stretched the spring a little, the ball bearing looked good, and got some new o-rings at Napa (not exact fit, but real close). Put it back together. Tapped the holes and bolted it back together. Looks ok, switches on/off/ reserve ok, don't know if it works.  Since I just changed the petcock I didn't re-install the old one, but I THINK it would work.Ran out of daylight, will try hook up a fuel line and and a small container of gas tomorrow and see. Posted this just to let you all know whats inside the non re-buildable side.

Get a Pingle petcock, manual one, and a Dan Marc electric cylinder and for get about all the hassle.

I've had my Pingle and Dan Marc going on 4 years now.     Two years ago I put in a hidden switch so no one can really steal the old boy.     You no throw the switch within 1 1/2 miles, you is a walking or a runnin trying to keep from getting caught stealin.

I turn it to the off position when I park it for the winter and turn it back on in the spring.     Only reason for that is so the little ball doesn't get stuck.     I might add, I assume it has a ball, I've never had it apart to have a look see.

Honda screwed up not putting a Pingle on it from the factory, BUT, if nothing fails, day don't get no revenue from parts.    Parts & service is where the stealer makes his $$$$$ and the factory makes a little $$$$$ selling bikes to stealers to resell and parts they need to order.

Really, Pingle is the very best way to go.
