Hello, I am trying to diagnose a no spark to any cylinder problem. I have gotten correct signal from the pickup coils but low primary coil voltage. It seems like the black box is bad. Does anyone own a running 1997 Valkrie who would install this box on their bike and see if it runs. Thanks in advance. Kevin

How would we know? You didn't put your location in your profile. Might be someone close but we can't guess where you are.

I don't remember anyone having an original ICM go bad. Not saying it can't happen, just saying they have been pretty reliable. Some have had some pin connector problems.
Is the engine cranking OK ? If so, has the engine started or tried to start when letting off on the button ? Have you tried using a jumper battery ? Low primary coil voltage is a classic low battery problem.

Frame grounds cause problems also, mine did. Run a jumper wire from battery negative to the frame. Or use a multi meter and make sure you have a good ground. Let us know and good luck! Firefighter

Thanks for your inputs, we were racing and riding this weekend and were away from the computer. I am out here in Saint Amant Louisiana 70774, I changed the pickup coils which were giving insufficient peak voltage and now have correct voltage at the pins of the ICM. I would like to mail it to someone who would install it on their bike and see if it fires. I see no broken wires or obvious damage but this is a hard life bike and may have a hidden wiring problem. If you can test it for me let me know where to send it and I will do so with return postage in the box. Thanks again.

Well good, glad its fixed. There have a couple instances of defective generators.

Actually it only fixed the peak voltage problem to the leads of the CDI, it still does not spark. The troubleshooting guide suggests either bad cdi or wiring (doubtful) as the main culprits when proper picup coil voltage is there but the voltage on the lead to the coils read low. I think it is the cdi but I hate to buy them to test with.

Oh OK, I mis-read the post.
Guess the easiest way is to try another ICM. You never mentioned the battery condition when asked, cranking voltage or the trying of another battery. If the voltage drops to 10.5 or lower, the battery is bad. Your problem still sounds like a battery or battery connection.

Chart will indicate quality of your battery charge.
