Yes, you can narrow it down a bit.

Does the clicking occur:

When the engine is running? Does it increase as the rpms increase?
When the wheels are turning? Does it increase as the speed increases?
When the brakes are applied?
Does something make it worse?
Does something make it better?
Clutch in? Clutch out?
How Loud is it?
Any new work or maintenance done?

I've chased down rattles I swore were coming from the headlight bucket, chased them down for days, only to actually discover a brake pad causing the rattle.

I'd get someone to stand aside the bike while it's clicking to get another pair of ears on it.

Clicking when engine running  parked, clutch in, clutch out. speeds up with rpm.  At first thought was a header leak, not header and not coming from valve cover.   loudest  in  area under petcock.

Pair valve. Normal sound, and one of the reasons to do a desmog cooldude

It has been desmogged.  Clicking is wrong word, it sounds like an exhaust gasket leak tick sound.

Maybe then you have a vacuum cap leaking. Or it could really be an exhaust leak, and your just not finding it. Might check the plugs and caps used in the desmog for correct fit.  cooldude

Easy enough to use a length of garden hose as a stethoscope and hunt down the source.

Basically, Removing all the smog devices and plugging the resulting holes. You can do a search on the tech page and find hours of reading and explaniation cooldude

When you said clicking I was going to say it's a baseball card in the spokes of your wheel.... 2funny

Could be blowing from the exhaust, has it been off lately if so were the gaskets changed? just sayin..
