Getting pretty antsy already! I still have a few more days here at the ol' hacienda, but soon enough I won't be able to stand it any longer, and ALI will have her way with me! Gonna take a longcut to the longcut rendezvous... (would that be a double positive...?)

Anyway, to be back on the road is a rather pleasant thought to hold... constipated traffic... not so much. Oh well, we just take what comes at us, and things always seem to work out... Really looking forward to this one, guys... Cross yer fingers for us, please!!!

We just had a cancellation for Creede on Sunday night. It is a king room and it is held in my name. It has a $50.00  on refundable non transferable deposit on it. If you are interested in this room and saving someone $50.00 let me know.  cooldude

Is it too late to get this room?

Slight change of plans for the Darby ride. After further consideration of our group I have decided that it will be best to go kick stands up at 9:00 am Saturday. This will give the sun a little more time to warm things up both in Leadville and on top of the mountain. We have folks coming up from the south as well as the south west that are not acustomed to our temps up here at the 1st of sept. We will still be alright as far as ending the ride in Montrose at a decent time for supper. This later departure time should put us rolling past the Twin Lakes turn off at about 9:20. If you are waiting there again we will just roll through and folks can fall in there. We will stop on top and all other previous plans will remain the same. Remember to have a FULL TANK OF GAS both Saturday and Sunday mornings before we roll. I think we should probably plan on a 9:00 am departure from Montrose on Sunday for the same reasons. I don't want our warm weather friends to travel all the way here to start their days miserable. Sorry for the changes but I am trying to take into account the entire group and make it fun and enjoyable for all.  cooldude

Darby was a Norwegian from Minnesota, he Loved riding in cold weather. Hahaha.

Just saw on the Denver weather report that the fall color season should arrive two weeks early due to the severe drought of this summer.  It is gonna be a short one as the leaves are not anchored strongly and weaker than normal; the aspens will change quickly from green to yellow   Strong winds and rain will bring them down easily as the season morphs with cool nights and warm days.

That should translate to a colorful ride for you folks coming up from the south and heading down through the San Juan mountains and over Monarch, Wolf Creek, and Independence Passes.

A safe ride to all and enjoy mother nature's annual palette in the high country of Colorado.

We had a blast!  Thanks Damon for scouting this one out and putting another great Darby ride together.  Was great seeing more folks from out of state coming up to enjoy riding in God's country (just funnin' y'all, happy you could partake).

Hello Colorado folks!

I have a paint project and could use some suggestions for a paint shop in or near Denver. Factory Saddlebags currently in burgundy and cream need to be made black. Not interested in doing it my self. Asking for a professional shop. The one recommendation from down in Pueblo is scheduled out 6 months, good for him to be that booked and honest enough to say so up front.

Check in, I think it is time to organize a little get together. I have plenty of questions to ask since my 2003 is currently in pieces getting a much needed maintenance makeover!

I'm HERE!  Doing some winter work on Jade & George.  We will be going to Taos this year.  Hope to get in more riding than last year.  BTW I got a Pit Boss cabinet pellet smoker and worked up a brisket recipe that's up to snuff!  I expect that might work into the mix this year.  Bruce says he wants to come - hope he's up for it he's had a few things to deal with lately.

Mark,

I nearly had an organism reading your post! Yes, I do plan to be there! In fact, I'm in route right now. I'm in Illinois dodging rain at the moment, not very successfully either, with Jerry, Big Wolf. We plan to take a very long-cut ride to IZ, but unless something unexpected should arise, we figure to arrive on June 9th. Knowing there could be some of your brisket waiting at the finish-line... well, talk about an incentive to make certain we do make it!!!

I'm really looking forward to this adventure and to the reunion with so many friends in Taos... you and June definitely included! Dinning on smoked brisket provided by a special pal... well... priceless!!! I'll be looking for you when we get there! Please make sure you send-up some 'smoke pellet signals' so you'll be easy to find...

Thanks for your enthusiasm Bruce!

Yep, gonna put a 2nd hitch on the back of the Tagalong; the cabinet pellet smoker has wheels, we'll have a road train!  Though they might be spinning 100,000rpm, they are pretty small!

Seriously, there might be logistical problems feeding 400 people my brisket at Taos... (My initials aren't J.C.)

We have a situation trying to put youse guys up, too.  The extra rooms are in use.

But I want to make this happen.  Thinkin we could set up a picnic at a park, and we can bring the fixins and my camp stove to heat up the already made brisket.  Some good bakery buns, some good deli sides, and a nice beverage (we can limit ourselves to say one if we want grownup juice).

We are also travelling to Taos on the 9th.  We plan to stay off I-25 - will be riding east to Limon then S on 71, then thru Walsenburg and the San Luis valley. That makes it 341 miles for us instead of 277.  Hey here's an idea.  We can bring the picnic fixins with brisket, meet y'all at the big truck stop just NW of Limon, and we can ride down Hwy 71 and picnic in Ordway, Rocky Ford, Fowler or LaJunta. Or you could meet us there if you aren't going as north as Limon.  I have room to bring the camp stove and a large cooler for the fixins.  I can find a suitable park in one of those towns.  And we can go with harmless beverages if we're on the road.

BTW the restaurant we ate at last year in Franktown - Chardcore - has already folded and replaced with a Korean BBQ bistro.  I'd say they'll last even shorter given the local tastes - no Koreans round here that I know of; mostly meat & potatos folk and that building has had more different failed restaurants in it than Carter has pills.  Actually at least 6 since we moved to the ranch in 96.

I'd like to be able to take this offline but I have no PM or email contact for you.  Can ya email me with that?  I'm valkstuff@horseapple.com.  I know y'all must be protective of your privacy; I don't abuse that - I'll note to only bcc you on group emails if you want, and otherwise I never spam.  Looks like I do have your phone contact.

Waddaya think?  (Offline if not appropriate to all - or not.)

Tommy Tailgate and I are heading to Taos on Sunday June 9th and wondering if anyone would like to join us on our "5 hour tour" down to New Mexico.  We are meeting around 9AM in Bailey CO. Breakfast/Coffee at the Cut Throat Cafe 157 Main St, Bailey, CO if you show up early. Gas is available down the street at the Conoco station. Planning on arriving late afternoon in Taos, in time for the early bird dinner.

No need.  The early bird cut-off is for shirts and pins.  Early bird cook-out is still on us.

Dave & Mark,

As is often the case, I've, apparently, misread the context... I was thinking y'all were talking about pie in Taos, not on the way down! Heck, Jerry and I will be riding in from Chama Sunday, so we won't be able to join y'all along your route after all... Oh well... perhaps we'll get lucky and find some along our own route... Here's hoping!!!

Darby Memorial Ride For Kids
It’s time to reserve your rooms for the Darby Ride. I’m changing things up a bit this year. Biggest change being that I am requesting a $20.00 donation from all participants with all proceeds being donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Darby’s honor. Darby was all about helping kids. Tailgate Tommy has agreed to handle all funds and see to it that all $$ makes it to the kids. (Thank You Tommy! I have been kicking myself for not doing this earlier. We might could have made a difference in some child’s life. I guess it’s better late than never. The other changes will be that I am posting this on the general board as well. The word got out last year and we had folks show up from a dozen different states. It was a great time so I think we should invite them all back again along with anyone else that wants to come. Also we will be staying in Montrose for both Saturday and Sunday nights. The reason being that we were too big of a group to find accommodations in the smaller mountain towns as well as I got our room rate lowered in Montrose for staying two nights as opposed to one.
  Call now for your rooms.
Rodeway Inn 719-486-3637 when calling tell them that you are with the VRCC. to receive the discounted rate.
Country Lodge Montrose 970-249-4567 ask for Jen. These rooms are blocked for us but don’t drag your feet.
