June & I are riding to an outdoor cafe on the peak to peak highway tomorrow. The planned route is, Franktown to Golden via Sedalia, E470 and Morrison, Golden Gate highway, P2P to the cafe (forgot the name of the cafe, but it's nice and usually bikes there). Lunch, and return via P2P past Blackhawk, Old Frontage Rd (Hwy 40) past El Rancho, Kerr Gulch to Evergreen, Cub Creek Rd to Turkey Creek, City View, the High Grade, and Deer Creek. Back around S side of Chatfield, end at Sedalia Grill and scatter from there. I plan to ride George.
Thinking meet at Valero in Franktown at 10:00, KSU at 10:15. Deadpan, if you want to meet at Sedalia we should go by there around 10:30.
Please advise if you want to come - if no one else at this late posting we won't meet up at Valero.

Good ride today. Great fall day to be out. Plenty of color in the high country. Damon & Chase met us with Dick in Sedalia. Took the path outlined above. Lots of people in the high country so there was some traffic on the Golden Gate hwy and more traffic on the Peak to Peak. Had lunch at Roy's Last Shot. Service was slow but we weren't in a big hurry. He still has a problem with smelly septic he had years ago but you can't smell it inside. Clearly that's why the gazebo has available seating. If it was MY business, pretty sure I would have done whatever it takes to fix it years ago. He came up and greeted us, friendly old guy with ZZ Top look, maybe too familiar (called me a grouch based on looking at me), with a dirty shirt & jeans (explains the unfixed septic). Biker destination, dedicated bike parking. I didn't take many pics though the fall colors looked good. I was riding instead. From the Saloon we took P2P S thru Blackhawk, Hwy6 W to frontage Rd E (old hwy 40) to El Rancho then S via Kerr Gulch to Kittridge, 74 to Evergreen, had to stop at the Baskin Robbins. From there, up Little Cub Creek, through Stanley Park, Turkey Creek, City View, Pleasant Park rd, the High Grade, and Deer Creek Canyon. Dick dropped off there, and we rode around Chatfield, Titan Rd, Sante Fe through Sedalia, Perry Park Rd to Wolfensberger, Plum Creek pkwy. Damon & Chase headed South there, via Lake Gulch rd past Castlewood Canyon to catch Hwy 83 S. The back roads had NO traffic, very clean, and lotsa new pavement. To find these roads you need a GPS & mapping software (how I found them) or live right there. Tons of twisties. Great fun!

Great day for a ride, almost no traffic. Love that twisty Canyon, and the view from the reservoir. Not looking forward to Cottonwood Pass getting paved, more traffic coming up from the front range to invade the territory. That canyon will never be the same. Tried to get a panorama of the whole range but I'm all thumbs! We're lucky to live in Colorful Colorado!

WOW! Some really nice pics... Makes me homesick for those hills!!! All thumbs or not, you did well, Valkorado... And, yes, Deadpan, I do think you now have the knack! One thing, though, Dick... If Mark doesn't have a reverse gear, somebody needs to tip him off how to park on a slope... lol

Ha Ha Bruce. You can't see in that pic, it's open directly to the exit in front. Not to mention, George's sidestand is well greased - won't hold against a slope at all, ya hafta leave him in gear. Now get your butt and Ali over here so's we can ride!

WOW! That would really be great! I'll definitely try to do that... Ummm... it's likely I'll be back out your way later during winter... I'll post about that too... maybe we can go pee off the London Bridge or something... Who knows, if we hit a good weather window, we might even attract a few refugees from the Rockies down to ride with us, as well... or maybe 'Meet In The Middle' or something.

Well sir... After reading the epic saga of y'all's last trek, I'm totally confident I could not keep up. That said, I happen to think a great deal of both you and Damon, plus many others out there, so I would very much like to ride along for as long as I could hold out... if y'all would tolerate it, that is... So, looks like we got the makin's here... Geeez, I'm starting to get all giddy...

Congrats TGT! Nice composition and background; use of the "golden mean".
OTOH George's bike wasn't good enough. Oh well. I should have put more effort into the background; rode the bike over to Red Rocks and shot it with best light - I was a photographer for CPI then IbT but didn't use the 'Blads for these shots, or perfect lighting.

It was a good picture, Mark, and the background was nice. I use several people to vote on the thirteen to be used. Some of the voters are knowledgeable Valkyrie riders and a couple are not particularly motorcycle folks. It sometimes surprises me which ones come to the top. This year we had a little over fifty entries and a very good number of really good shots.

I was interested to see if Karma would influence the choices. It was Karma that got me to build the pipes for Chuck who restored the bike, after it was abused, after I had turned down building them for George in 2001 and felt bad after cancer killed him. Karma had told Chuck I knew the owner; he called; I gave him George's story and he said "I hafta do him right" and restored the bike. I said "Here's my chance at redemption, to honor George's memory", and agreed to make my best pipes ever. It was Karma that made me go to facebook two years later - NEVER do that - and saw the bike entered in the bike show and up for sale - no one had bid on it yet - then called Chuck who accepted my offer. I still don't know what Karma has in mind; why it wanted me to make the pipes George had asked me for 12 years before, and why it wants me to have the bike. Maybe time will tell. Am I supposed to join the Patriot Guard? Am I supposed to join the CMA and witness to jailbirds while showing the bike? Am I supposed to be saved? Why did Karma NOT infliuence the calendar pick after the other weird stuff? Wait and see I guess.

Mark,
The story of you and George has been an interesting one to follow... 'Karma' has played, I believe, an amazing role in my own journey, as well... to the point I have no doubts personally about either its existence or its profound impact upon our lives...
An interesting aspect of that is that we usually don't know at the time what or why things are unfolding the way they have or are... Often, we never receive a clear, easily explainable answer to our questions either. More often than not, we're left wondering... We review the events, consequences, and apparent details from different angles, then we draw conclusions... based upon speculation mostly against the backdrop of our own value and belief systems and our own 'logic of life'.
Perhaps the nay-sayers are correct and there really are no external or super-natural 'forces' at work in our world... Perhaps we only ascribe 'credit' for events to something like Karma, fate, destiny, God, because we have no other way to explain them, and we find 'random coincidence' to be too empty, too unfulfilling, of an explanation. Whatever the answer truly is, I choose to be in your camp on this.
We may never know exactly what the 'power' or 'reason', if any, was behind the events working out the way they did with you and George... What we do know is that you and a host of others, like yours truly, are mighty glad they did! Thanks for sharing this stimulating and thought-provoking conceptual vs. existential experience with us... and please do continue to keep us informed of events and your thoughts about them!
