Read what I could find. Have yet to remove anything but the carbs. Question, if I remove the pair valves and rubber connecting hoses going to the chrome lines can I just JB weld the chrome lines where they are? Or do I need to remove them for some reason cut ,fill with jb weld and replace?

You can JB weld them or go to the auto parts store and get some rubber caps for them. Also get a cap for the nipple on the bottom of the air filter box, and the vacuum nipples on the back of the intakes. If you have a California model there is more you can get rid of. Good Luck it's not too hard. Also a good time to replace the O-rings between the six intakes and the heads.

Just wanted to be sure once they were unhooked there was no gravity induced reason to remove cut and replace.

You can but it would be a lot cleaner job to remove them and install a shiny desmog kit from redeye. FWIW

You can do that if you want to, but, why not do it right as long as you're going to do it. It doesn't take that much longer. Some that have done the quickie version have gotten/had the fear of God instilled in them when the monster decided to blow one of the ends/caps off.

You can do that Jim and hope they don't pop out or the rubber caps deteriorate.  I usually just remove them and tap a 9/16" freeze plug into the front and rear openings and put some of the epoxy that you find at the auto parts store that is in a plastic see through tube and made into a roll.  You cut off what you want and knead it until it mixes well and put some on top of the freeze plugs to cover the opening.  On the center ones I cut the tube off at the fitting and fill it with epoxy and make a gasket to fit between the fitting and the bottom of the head and re-install.  Don't forget to close the opening in the bottom of the air box.  I screw a bolt into it and let it thread itself into the plastic.  While you have the carbs off turn the pilots out to 2 1/4 turns out if you have factory low speed jets.
If you go this route I use a small 1/4" drive socket and short extension to drive the freeze plugs in.  Be sure to use a small socket that will not get trapped when the lip of the freeze plug rolls in.
I cut the right front tube where it curves around the rear of the timing belt and you will make life easier if you remove the crash bars before you get started.

Like Salty1 said get the shiny de-smog kit from Redeye and you will have everything you need to do a clean job with instructions. You can also get some quality O-rings for intakes from him. And check out the de-smog tips on this site for some good pictures.

+1 on the remove crash bars and the shiny desmog. Just did this a few months ago and it worked great. Didn't need to remove carbs though...

Also, while your at it you might want to install a Dan Marc fuel shutoff valve.  Roll Eyes

When I did my first de-smog back in 2006, I did it with materials I had on hand.  I took some rubber hose and cut 6- 1/1 /2" sections and packed JB Weld in one end.  Let them cure over night and installed them on the ends of the chrome tubes with small hose clamps.  I used zip ties to hold the two tubes on each side, that moved freely, together.

If, for any reason, I need to re-smog, I'm good.

Did my others the same.  Out of 18, not one failure.

+1 on the Redeye Shiney Desmog kit.

Nothing is left to chance. Best under $50 upgrade I ever made!

I did the Redeye intake O rings and replaced the petcock vacuum hose while I was that far into the fat girl's top.

I'm either driving a Valkyrie or an Airbus... it just depends on the day of the week.
