I've heard nothing but negative things about them on here. I guess they are paper type filter, if I remember right. Plus I doubt you gain any performace.

I have tried the K&N oil filters because I wanted the chrome housing that they make them with if you buy the 303c. As for a filter they are OK but personally I had one of them on for a few thousand miles it was almost time to change the oil and so I wanted to do a little unscientific experiment on my own. I went out and bought a Pure One oil filter and put it on without changing the oil. Drove for awhile and then checked the oil again for cleanliness. What I found was the oil became noticeably clearer with the Pure One filter. I really attributed this to the fact that the the Pure One actually filtered the oil better. So I stuck with the Pure One. the filter was cheaper easier to find to purchase and does a better job. I didn't have a bad experience with the KN filters and wouldn't be afraid to recommend them just had a better experience with the Pure One. I have since read articles that the KN filter did receive good write ups.

You'll find some very, very strong opinions on this issue.
The K&N Oill Filter is good, and it looks good.
There are more filtermedia than in the OEM filter and with same pressure drop.
There are not much quality difference on the substitute filters. I rember I cut some flters a few years ago and the Baldwin filter had less filtermedia than the others.
The choice is yours, you wont do any damage whatever brand you choose.
I`m in the filter business for the oil & gas industry in Norway. We stock 350 brands and do some testing at our lab. I tested a few filters a few years ago, and the K&N was one of the best. This was before I made my website and I was not thinking of documentation, pictures etc.

I have used K&N on my Jeeps and bikes for years.  No issues.

As you most likely can guess, opinions on this subject are very subjective.

Here's a good site with a lot of information and comparisons of filters.

I won't recommend one type of oil filter over another, but what I've found is that if you use high temperature spray paint you can paint your new oil filter to come close to matching the color of your bike before you install it.  I have the cream and yellow Valkyrie, and found a high temperature creme color spray paint for my filters.  I paint them, let them dry, install them with my oil change and they just disappear.  My two cents worth.
