I will need a new rear tire before spring.  Have always run MC tires, but am considering ordering one of these.  I like it's taller than stock aspect, & Goldwingers seem to like them.  Available only from Universal Tire. (?)   I know they are on the expensive side for car tires, but still not as much as an Avon, so no issue there.
So, convince me that this is not a good choice for a DS tire.  Thanks.

I have a low mileage one I'm taking off my voyager. Handles great, but too close to the swing arm on the voyager. I would have no problem running on a Valkyrie, they have more clearance than my voyager.

Check with your local tire dealer. My local Chevy dealer tire dept. manager can order them, that is in the Dunlop brand, don't know about the Austone

Just buy it!  I really love mine, but wouldn't have known until I tried it.

James III on the Florida section has one and seems to like it.  He did say it hit his wiring and took out the rear lighting (primary).  His aux stuff worked so he continued his trip.  Guess he hit a large bump and the tire hit the inside of the fender.  I have a GY TT and like it fine, but will move to the Taxi Tire when (if) my GY TT needs replacement.

I have one on my Valk.  So far I'm liking it (a couple thousand miles now), and I haven't had any issues yet.

It's a bit taller than stock, so you'll probably notice a slightly lower RPM once at speed.

I just removed my worn Metz ME880 with about 5K on it and mounted up the Austone today.  I have it loaded with 36PSI (as others have indicated).  Won't install Rideon/Quad Boss until after I get a ride on it to check it out.

Unfortunately it was raining today and the storm is on the door step so it doesn't look like I will get out to try it out for a week or so.  Hoping for a sunny dry day .....

Should have ordered one on Black Friday thru Cyber Monday.... FREE shipping then.    I have noticed that prices this year were higher than last year of course, but still cheaper than some nice MC tires.   I am hoping for a good riding and longer lasting tire..... spending 200 bucks or so for 5 or 6k miles just doesn't cut it.

I put one on about 5k ago.

It's performed great in all situations between 2 up highway cruizing to 1 up hopping thru the BRP.

Can't tell it's been used if you look at the tread, still looks brand new.

I run it at 32-34psi for a softer ride, so I'll be happy to get 10-15 k out of it, but will probably get more.

I tried out some 11.5" progressive shocks with it and when 2-up it was hitting the wiring cage when going over large bumps.  Bought some progressive 13" and issue gone.

Great tire and I'd buy another.

I have a little over 11k on mine right now, and it looks like it'll do at least that much more.  Tread is still beefy.  I run tighter than you, about 38 solo and 42 two up.  I want another as well.  13" shocks are best with this taller tire in my opinion.

Running one on my Interstate, about 9,000 miles now. No complaints hardly any wear, looks like it will last a long time.

Hey guys, bottoming out was my own fault...I should have known. I had my Aux fuel tank full, main tank full, saddle bags heavy, duffle bag heavy, tank bag full; just really loaded down and makin' miles in 94 + degree heat. No damage to the tire, the metal bracket that holds the harness connector was bent under and torn apart, the wire connecter was shattered apart. Still running the original shocks....I'm shopping .....likely Progressive 13".
I had talked to Grumpy before I went to the Taxi tire as he seemed to like it on his Interstate and had several thousand miles logged on his at the time.
Did the rear bearing mod and purchased the spacer from Grumpy's service, installed the Taxi tire in March or early April; at just over 25,000 miles and just turned 38,000 today....so 13000 miles +- so far. Run and maintain 34 PSI. Best rain tire I have ever had on a motorcycle and we do ride in the rain down here in Florida like it or not, your going to get caught; run an E3 on the front, it works well for me, some don't care for them as I've read in other threads.
Barring foreign objects, have no idea what the useful life could be of the tire. I favor the rounded profile of the Taxi tire but have no other CT experience to compare.

Grumpy,     Have you bottomed out or hit that wiring cage underneath with the tire?  What shocks and setting do you have on that I/S?   I have stock shocks at setting 3, considering upping it to 4 maybe?

Don't know about Grumpy, but I ran on 5, still bottomed out.  Installed air shocks, still bottoms out.  It is really my biggest complaint on the taxitire.  I talked my neighbor into putting one on his 1500 Goldwing.  He has no complaints.

Well what model Valk do you have and what stock shocks?  I think that is a contributing factor on some.  In all my reading about the Austone tire, I only read of one person having a rub issue and I think pulling wires.... and he posted a bit earlier.

Dang..... I wish I knew about these bottoming out issues prior.   This tire is not as cheap as some other dark sides might be, and about the same price as a MC tire (not a high end tire).   But I do like the narrower/rounder profile much better than the other Dark side tire I tried.   So, hopefully with just my fat azz and the shocks on 4 will work and not rub. Curious where it rubbed on yours.   I will need to check the wiring under the fender before I go to far I guess.

On my IS, it rubbed on the bump for the rear tail light assembly.  Just make sure the cage surrounding the pigtail connector is not bent or hanging below that bump for the tail light and that the conduit the harness is in is all close/tight to the fender.  I beat the hell out of mine comming back from IZ 13 on I-80 south of Chicago (2 up pulling a trailer), every overpass jount seemed to have a 6 in step to it.  It rubbed, but no damage to wiring.  When I got home, I inspected it closely and only found rub marks where I stated.

Wheel bearings are not a maintenance item.

If the bearings are good there is no reason to mess with them.

The "double row modification" necessitates leaving an oil (dirt, water) seal out,
which is not a favorable trade-off.

Thank you for the reply, I am aware of the mod and details, I just didn't know someone could provide the cut bushing.

Anyone have information on how to acquire the shortened spacer?

Skinhead, same for myself, heading toward Metropolis, Ill going to Inzane. The bridge joints were terrible and tar snakes the likes of which I had never seen; and 94 degree temps. No wonder we were bottoming out!

Grumpy (Bill) hangs out in the Florida board.  He makes the spacers and other items.  Do a call out there and he usually answers in a day or so.  He just polished my front forks to a mirror shine.
