Just got my 1999 Valkyrie back from the shop. Final Drive was "shot". Took two month to get the part from Honda.

Now that I have "her" back, I realize I need new tires. Anyone have recommendations? I ride almost daily to work (Northern California) and love weekend rides on the back roads.

Thanks in advance!

Tyres can be as personal as beer choice. And a lot can depend on your riding style, solo or double-up, just cruising or pushing the envelope a bit.

I tried BridgeStones once and got pitiful mileage out of them.
Others will swear by other brands, or reccommend DarkSiding or even DoubleDarkSiding. That again is a personal thing. I tried it and didn't like it.
Myself, I used to ride on Avon Venom 'R's (14,000 miles iirc was the best I got out of a set), but they have been superceeded by the Avon Cobra, so I run the Cobras.

I've been running Avons (Venoms, now Cobras) since my original Dunlops gave up with 9000 miles on them.  I ride two up about 70% of the time and I get great mileage.  I love the way they handle, dry and wet.

Dunlop Elite III.  Less than 1,000 miles on them, but nice so far.  Smiley

Avon Cobras on the front, dark side tires on the rear. I had a Dunlop Elite III on the front once, but it slipped a couple of times on a wet mountain road. No more EIIIs for me.

I have run Avon Venoms and Cobras.  Cold weather, standing water in heavy rains, and scraping pegs  riding my Avon's never let up. The only problem resulted from running more than 42psi in in the rear for a month, the ride was harsh and the wear accelerated.  My rear cobra was to the wear marks before 10k miles.  I replaced it with a Bridgestone Exedra Max 200/60/16, same size as my Cobra.  So far the  Exedra appears to have a harder compound, but the tires contour has worked well with the front Cobra.

Go with what fits your style and budget.  I tried the Exedra after research and seeing fellow riders with Vulcan 2000, Stryker's and Vaqueros.

The Exedra Max is radial ply and my sidewall is extremely stiff ( V speed rating )

May have stated the wrong speed rating on the Exedra Max....will check it later. Another issue, images show a center groove on the rear tire, this is usually the bias tire.
