510 miles later,,,,,,, n' it's here..    Cheesy

Sweet sounding bike, but,,,,, have a few questions fer you peeps, bout glass packs...  coolsmiley

How long do they last?

It looks like the bike was probably re-jetted for em. The reason I say that is, cold it does not need much choke, for very long. That's compared to the 97, with cobras 6/6.

Is re-jetting normally done with these?

How loud,,,,,,,,,,, will they get, as time passes n' the packing goes? (right now pretty mellow, compared to the 6/6)

Is it much of a job (is welding required)  to replace the g-packs?

Thanks Jim

I do not need to use my choke unless it is below maybe 45*, that was with my 6/6 or with the oem which I now run.

Have never heard of rejetting with glass packs.

Question for you.  Did you rejet your car when ya put glass packs on it.

How long did they last on your car/truck or whatever?

I never rejetted on any of my Glass Pack and dual exhaust conversions on my autos.

Never kept them long enough to see if and when they blew out.

As far as welding, it depends on how the glass packs were installed.    I've heard of adding a screw on pipe and then a matching piece for the muffler then just twisted the 2 threaded pipes together.

I've heard of Glass Packs slid over a stub pipe and U Clamps put on.

Both of the above will probably take a bunch of heat to get them apart.

My glass packs were welded on, and when I shipped the complete set to Michigan they were still connected.     I don't know what the party on the other end did with them.     I never heard from him again.

You will just have to check into how they are put together and then go from there.

Sorry I can't be of any better help.

Last indefinitely if I made them.  Or anybody else who used glasspacks made for a V8.

rejetting, no not required.  Could have been done anyway.  Choke is no indication.

Sound won't really change.  You can prove that with a decibal meter over time.  Some have a different opinion but I have heard no one prove it with a meter.  Guessing is just as accurate as a butt dyno.  Not.

You shouldn't have to replace them.  But I make most of them replacable anyway, so I don't lose sales to guys who think like you.  Most of my builds have a muffler clamp underneath.  No welding but you may need to get the packs from me because they have a 2 1/2 ID inlet - unusual.  If no muffler clamp - you could have a "Easy Glasspack Mod" made with waterpipe parts, or welded together.  If waterpipe parts - it's probably seized.  If it has my clamps - not seized, you need a 9/16 wrench and a big screwdriver.  Don't expect it to be quieter with replaced packs.

I ran my glasspacks for years and then pulled them and run straight pipes for years never re-jetted. Just a nice mellow sound at cruising speed not too loud unless I want it to be loud.

Never owned  a car other than basic transportation (till I recently bought the vette that is) since bikes are always faster, figured why bother.

So never owned,,, anything with a glass packs on it..

I have re-jetted, a lot of bikes,,, in the past whenever the exhaust was made more free flowing.

Mainly Z-1's,  KZ900/1000's all of which Did need re-etting.

Do you see why,,, I asked now???

Thanks for your reply..

That's,,, what I was wanting to know. Thanks..

I love the way they sound now,,, and if they will stay at that level? looks like,,, I'll never have to screw with em. cooldude

I am surprised,,  about you saying the choke is no indication.    coolsmiley

If you're not needing the choke more than likely someone replaced the OEM #35 slows for #38's.

Seems,,,,,,,,,,, a bit rich, ta me, so that may, well,,,,, be...   cooldude

Thanks all...
