The gauge doesn't work in the tank but works outside the tank. I even tried a new fuel sender. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Dave

I take it the SENDER doesn't work inside the tank, but works outside. Correct? Sounds like a connection/wiring problem. With the new sender, did you install it correctly with the wire harness coming out the rear of the hole?

Two questions:
1.  Are you connecting it to the same plug when it is inside and outside?  If not, there's a good place to start looking.

2.  I don't recall, is the float made of foam type material or is it a hollow float?  If it is hollow, is it full of gas and doesn't float?

I know that is really three questions, but it is late at night.

Sounds like it is being mounting in the tank wrong. Like John mentioned, the wires are at the rear of the tank.

Mine was mounted with the wires on the side, and I would only go down to a little less than half a tank to empty. Good thing for the reserve switch on the petcock.

Many thanks to all. It was my sender mounted in the wrong direction. Now I need to dump the crap petcock and put on a pingle. It's on order now and should get it next week. That with the DanMarc valve and she'll be good to go.

Dave the Pingle you ordered, is it vaccum or free flow when switch is on?

RJ it's the free flow. I feel you don't need the vacuum one with the DanMarc valve. Also since it's going on an Interstate I leave it on reserve and use the gas gauge. I never turn it off unless I'm removing the tank.
By the way I have 2 interstates at this time. I just picked one up in beautiful shape but had not been ridin in 10 years. I went thru the bike from one end to the other and once I get the petcock replaced I'll put it up for sale. It's a 99 Green and silver with matching Bushtec trailer and only has 20,000 miles on her.

That was going to be my suggestion if you were going vacuum.

I've had a free flow Pingel & a Dan Mark switch on MGM for a couple of years.

I also hide an extra switch that turns on the Dan Marc after the ignition key.

We were having motorcycle stolen pretty bad in my area till the caught the damn kid.    11 years old.     Last guy who caught him snuck up behind the kid and just stomped the pee wadding out of him.    He is doing time in prison for beating him up, the kid is in a detention home for another couple of months & then he will be released.
