I'm thinking about adding a Leathlyke trunk on my standard. The company website says your rack must be able to hold 30 pounds. . .  The little sticker Honda puts on the rack says; 8 pounds max. I know Honda most likely puts those there for some liability issues? It may also have to do with the weight balance? I've certainly have had well over 8 ponds strapped to the lugage rack before, without any handling issues. . . . and without any damage to the rack or backrest, but I'm wondering if I'll be pressing my luck at 30 pounds? Any input or thoughts would be appriciated. Thanks  cooldude

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I think you'll be alright. I really doubt the trunk weights 30 lbs by itself, loaded maybe.

Dude, I wouldn't worry - 1st time I took a trip with the wife and our stuff in a sissy bar bag - it had to weigh 45 lbs. My rack fared just fine.

I've done 20+ pounds in a T-bag numerous times.  I saw a pic once a number of years ago of a Hondaline rack that failed.  The square frame work is hollow.  It broke right at the end of the side support gussets.  I made an aluminum plate the bolts over the rack to match the foot print of the T-bag.  It helps to distribute the load so the side support gussets carry more of the weight rather than dead weight hanging off the unsupported end.
