After changing my clutch fluid on my 99 Valk, I am noticing some fluid on the clutch handle after riding for a while. It only leaks when I use the clutch. Sitting in the garage after a few days, the handle is dry. Thinking about changing the piston set. I noticed on Direct Line parts the push rod is sold separately. Can I use my old push rod or get a new one? I haven't done this before but it looks like it won't be too hard. I do have the manual to go by. For those out there that have done this before any advice would be appreciated. Can this be done without taking off the master cylinder. Thanks

I have installed the rebuild kit in two (one clutch and one front brake). In both cases I reused the push rod. In both cases, I removed the cylinder with the reservoir from the bike.  You don't want the fluid to drip on the nice pant job and the circle clip was hard for me to remove (and that was at the work bench). Good luck.

I'm not sure about the rod, but, I wouldn't even try the rebuild on the bike. Too many things to leak fluid on cooldude

Seeing the brake fluid on the clutch handle should not be interpreted as the master cylinder

needing to be rebuilt.

Especially so, since it occurred after refilling the reservoir.

I would think there can be any number of reasons for what you see and none of them related

to needing to rebuild the master cylinder.

First one being the placement of the cap and gasket. They should be reinstalled in the same exact

position as when they were removed.

Now there's a leak.  Easiest thing is to get a new cover gasket.

And there is truth to the fact than you can over tighten the cover to a point that it will leak.

Check the rod closely. Daniel Meyer has a story about the
rod and its associated parts wearing out, and him using
the clip from a bungee cord (and duct tape and all that
stuff, you know  Wink ) to get home. I guess if you don't
see wear it is probably OK to reuse...

Thanks everyone. I think I'll replace the boot for now. I double checked around the master cylinder cover and all is dry. Once the clutch handle is off ,is there anything that holds the boot in place or will it just come out. Will fluid come out when the boot is removed? Thanks again
