I have contacted several motels on the main drag in Maggie (they don't say Valley..who knew?). Most of them have availability although I really did not know how many would want to attend. They begin gearing up for big crowds just before Memorial Day with their Spring Bike Fest, then stay pretty busy all the way through Fall. Most of the folks who emailed me back or I spoke to on the phone said the second week of May, the 12th through the 18th, would be a pretty decent time to come up. So, I'm thinking about the 11th (Sunday) through the 18th (Sunday) and all the dates in between as when we should plan to make the trip. Some may want to stay the entire week, I almost surely will, some only a few days. The best riding time is during the week it always seemed to me. James is also planning an Auto Train trip for around the same time and riding south from Virginia to hopefully rendezvous with us in Maggie. I'm looking at some of the smaller Motels that are on the creek and have a fire pit. I'll post more on that real soon. Due to the small group, group discounts seemed unlikely. The rates are pretty reasonable however. There are also a bunch of campgrounds right in town if we all wanted to stay in close proximity to each other. The weather this time of year is usually pretty good. Cool mornings, warming up in the afternoon with occasional rain preceding cold fronts. It can get down right cold as well but they said that is rare in mid May. It is the beginning of the Spring flower season as well..Billy Boy. So, look at your calendars and tell me what you think. I'm going to go ahead and make some reservations pretty soon. There are so many beautiful rides up there, including the BRP. I think we would have a blast. I look forward to hearing from y'all.

Jeff the Smoky Falls Lodge may be out of the price range you had in mind, but is a nice place. It has a covered area to house quite a few bikes, has a sort of Gazebo area that will house 30-40 people for a night time gathering area. Jonathan Creek runs across the rear of the property. They have a couple of different types of rooms, some on ground level in a motel like area and some in a multi level hotel like area. Not trying to sell you on this place, just giving you options. We stay in a campground a few miles away called Trails End when we go up. It is on 278N.

I guess you could call it a splinter group of folks that used to have Valkyries and some still do formed a group called Big Bike Riders. We had two or three group rally's in Maggie Valley. Two of the three were held there. Lamont Bryden VRCC #0001 that started the VRCC with Oz was the impetus behind the group. He had a Boss Hoss, then a Suzuki M109 and now is into Spyders. The website is still there, but not visited very often. We have I guess gone our separate ways with other bike type interests etc. I think the Smoky Falls Lodge gave those that stayed there a group rate of some sort, but it was more expensive than some of the smaller motels. Again I am not trying to sell it, just giving you something else to think about. They have a restaurant that I think is open maybe only for supper/dinner. The Maggie Valley diner is walking distance and they serve breakfast and all other meals too.

I stayed at the Smokie Falls Lodge years ago with the Valkyrie group. It was a pretty good place. Wish I could go this year, but already commited to take the wife to Vegas that week. Don't remember what we paid for a room, buy it was reasonable and clean. Yes, also had a shelter for about 12 bikes. Worth checking out. Gregg

I have been getting some more emails from places to stay in Maggie. Smoky Falls Lodge ( http://www.smokyfallslodge.com/maggievalleymotel.html) has contacted me. They are a little higher than some but are offering a discount to us. They didn't say how much, I will be calling them to find out. They sent me a standard rate schedule which I will post soon. The discount would be better than those rates. Jonathon Creek Inn ( http://jonathancreekinn.com/index-welcome.html) is also offering a discount. They will be contacting me tomorrow. So now that I have a couple of discounters, I'm going to re-contact some of the others to see if they might now offer one. I have contacted Creekside Lodge ( http://www.creeksidelodge.com/contact.html) to see if they might. More information coming soon.

Love ya I agree with Billyboy, Sherrie and I are in for the Maggie Valley Trip and will be staying in a Motel/Hotel with you Guys and Gals. I think we'll have to wait on the Autotrain trip and do that at a Later Date. As time Grows Closer we will decide wether we will Ride up with Billyboy and Grumpy or trailer the Bikes. I think a week in Maggie would be Quite Relaxing.

Love ya I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I think it would be fun sometime. I just like traveling on a motorcycle that's all. I'll be leaving on the Saturday before and spend the night somewhere in Ga. Then up to Maggie on Sunday. It's a easy 1 & 1\2 day ride. Looking forward to this. Hope you can make it Doug. Hell ya Ron. Would be good to see you again. Missed you at Inzane.

I put the dates in my smartphone . If I can her get to come, are there any wives with cages that will shop instead of ride? That would be a bonus, she's not into the twisties. If not, I'm coming solo. It's a days ride to get there, so I'll try to get the week day rides rather than weekend, maybe Wed to Sat.

Earl, my wife is coming (so far anyway) and I trailer my bike up there, hence my truck will be there too. She enjoys going on rides but also likes to shop so I always plan on doing several solo rides, especially if it is very cool or cold.

Will be talking to Lydia from Smoky Falls Lodge tomorrow on discounted room rates. I will then have all the discounted rates from the motels that have offered us a discount. There are 3 so far, I posted their websites above. I'm not trying to choose the motel for us all, I usually rent a cabin, but am trying to find one that will discount us, has some cool facilities and amenities, has a place we can sit, drink a few brewskies and can accommodate most of us. Feel free to browse all the motels in Maggie and offer your suggestions. There are also many chain motels as well.

Let a Texan butt in here a minute. Y'all might want to ask Smokin' Joe where to stay in this area. He has lots of experience here. My $.01875 and keep the change. Hay Jimmyt

I have now heard from two of the motels I contacted again. They are both relatively close together. This is what I have so far. I definitely have a favorite now. Please feel free to make a commitment as soon as you can. I think this is going to be a wonderful time for all of us. When you call, mention this is for the Florida Valkyrie Group. I may get more info back from others but this is what I have now. Thanks Smoky Falls Lodgehttp://smokyfallslodge.com/2550 Soco Road (US Hwy 19), Maggie Valley, NC 28751 Contact: Lydia- 828-734-8792 Spoke to Lydia. She is offering $20. per night off on her regular rates. Rates will range $79 to $99 depending on which room you book. She is sending me the types of rooms and the rates tomorrow. I will post them then. They have the covered motorcycle parking, full service restaurant, the Moonshine Grill, that gets great reviews and a large covered gathering spot for after hours tire kicking and relaxing. In my opinion, this would be the best place to headquarter. They are not the cheapest but seem pretty nice for the money. Browse their web site and let me know what you guys think. They also have a fire pit and are on the creek. No pets and all rooms are non-smoking. Each room has a microwave, coffee pot and small refrigerator. She has blocked out 15 rooms for us from May 11th-May18th and will hold the block until March 15th. I'm going to go ahead and book a room here. They need a credit card but do not charge until you arrive. Maggie Valley Creekside Lodge2716 Soco Road—Hwy U.S. 19 Maggie Valley, North Carolina 28751 1-800-621-1260 ( http://www.creeksidelodge.com/contact.html) Carol Burrell Standard RoomsRoom amenities include: microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, iron/ironing board Creekside Unit RoomsRoom amenities include: microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, iron/ironing board, private balcony overlooking creek with rocking chairs Apartment: 2 bedrooms-1queen bed in each, den/full kitchen combo -Minimum 2 night stay Discount Rates:Standard rooms: $50 Creekside rooms: $55 King/Jacuzzi rooms: $79 Apartment: $99 All discount rates are per night plus tax (11%). Availability: 45 rooms. They have a No Pet Policy. All rooms are non-smoking. Not a bad place either, especially for the money. They have discounted their rooms for us as well, about $20. per night. Gets good ratings as clean and quaint. Seems to be an older motel but very well maintained.

Jeff, Thanks for taking the time to look into setting all this up. I would like to join you guys since I do a trip to TN/NC once a year around the same time. Unfortunately I would not know if I could make it until it gets a little closer to the date. Hopefully things will work out and the dates will match, I would ride it from here

Just a bump to keep this on top. I'm really hoping to make this ride and have told several of my Valkyrie Dragon Riders from the Bluegrass area about it. Don't be surprised if a few of us show up.
