So are there any plans to do a group Jan. 1 ride?  This non-valk rider is interested if the weather is semi good and you guys will allow a heretic to ride with you.

ValkPilot was talking about a ride at the last meeting.  I haven't been cleared to ride yet but hope to be in the saddle in the spring.

I'm sure everyone will welcome you to the ride.  You've always been a heretic - you're just riding a different motorcycle now.

Hey Doc , come on down if the weather is dry ..... There's usually about 400 + bikes of all shapes , colors & makes to look at , not to mention the great folks who show up , the colder the better the coffee tastes .... Hey Doc , I have an extra bike you can ride if you come down , its Lisa's 2001 Shadow ACE 750 ...... Thanks Old Geezer Richard  crazy2

Richard and Charlie, Thanks for the invitation.  I have a bike.  Just traded the phat gurl for a Vulcan Voyager full dresser.  Guess I'm getting old but those creature comforts are beginning to mean more to me than before.  I really like the 1700 cc fuel injected, electronic cruise control, six speed true overdrive, automatic volume control on the stereo, digital information center, floating floor boards, etc.  Told you I'm getting a little older.  Will wait to see what the DFW group does on that day, if anything.  If not, don't be surprised to see my smiling face.  Would look forward to riding with you both again. Planning still in progress.  I was thinking about repeating a NYD ride from a few years ago -- up to the Red River via backroads that land us in Muenster for a meal.

Weather looks dicey right now.  Chance of rain.

What I'm thinking is to replicate a NYD destination ride led by Captain Speedo on January 1, 2010.

So, here's a proposed route:

The launch point is 2834 W University Dr, Denton, TX 7620.  It's a Race-Trac station close to 380 and I-35.

We'll proceed by a meandering route northwest to a bridge over the Red River north of St Jo.  After a stop for photos, we'll head for Muenster for lunch.

After lunch, the plan is to proceed southeast, then head due east on 455 at Bolivar, proceed across the lake, head back down 377 to 380, and, if necessary, back to the starting point.

Actually, I would expect that some will want to split off at various spots along the return from Muenster.  We'll play that by ear.

I think KSU at 1000 is reasonable and puts us in Muenster in the noonish time frame.

The entire route, including stops at the bridge and for lunch, takes about 4 1/2 hours.

If everyone starts with a full tank, Muenster is a good fill-up point at about 100 miles.

Whattaya think?

Here's some GPX files for those of you who might download to your GPS:

Entire Route

Starting point to Muenster

Muenster to the end of the route

Right click on the links and choose "Save As" or "Save Target As".  Note, your system may identify these as ".XML" files.  If so, change the suffix to ".GPX" before saving to your desired location.

And here's a PDF for you analogs

Click on the link to open in your browser or right click on the link, choose "Save As" or "Save Target As" to open from your computer.

Assuming everything goes as planned, the analog says y'all will arrive in Muenster about 12:15.  With time for pictures added in, do you think at 12:30 meetup for lunch is about right?

30 minutes for pics at the bridge is built into the analog timeline, but 12:30 is probably a safe bet.

I'm sure we'll be in, unless updated later.  My reasoning would be because I would be too hung over.  But if thats the case, I doubt there would be a chance for any update.  So I guess we'll be there.

If you update, then we'll read the update, but if you don't update, we won't of course, unless you update us to let us know you will/won't be updating, in which case we'll be updated to either read your update or not. If not, we won't.

It was a beautiful day for a ride.  A little chilly first thing, but warmed quickly.  By this after, it was near 70°.

Brew1brew, Buzzkill, Hollyday, BnB Tom and Doc809 met up as planned and headed for the wilds of Oklahoma via Indian Bridge.

No traffic, bright sun, good riders -- what could go wrong?

We got to the restaurant in Muenster only to find it CLOSED.  (Disco and Chauffeur had also found it closed and were sitting drumming their fingers waiting for us to show up.)

Disco scouted all the other joints in Muenster with no good results.  All closed.  So, we placed a call to Sweetie Pies Ribeyes in Decatur.  Problem solved, they were open.  We just needed to ride another 30 miles or so.

The lunch detour threw the second half of the ride into the wind.  It was later than we'd hoped and Doc had a two hour hike back home and needed to be there in time for a NYD Black Eyed Peas party.  So we scrapped the scenic return route and headed back to our respective dwellings using the most efficient routes.

We missed all y'all who couldn't make it.  It was a fine day on the bikes.
