Looking to change up my look before the thaw. Nearly finished with a re-do of my 97, and want to undo some poor looking chrome. I am considering black chrome as I have had some bad times with flaky powder coat. I have been told good powder coat is reliable,,,,anyone know anything about black chrome?
Does it last and stand up to normal use ?
As always I appreciate your input and humor.
Charles.

Yes I have  bike with black chrome exhaust.
I like it, it is not as durable and hard as regular chrome.
Example: I use 4-0000 steel wool and auto cleaner wax to redo regular chrome.
On black chrome I use a sponge and cleaner wax, using the 4-0000 steel wool leaves fine scratchs and a dull look.

Yes it is harder and more durable than powder coat, just not as hard as regular chrome.

I personally like the black chrome finish and look better than powder coat.
It is has  a deeper clearer shine.

The pipes are 29 years old and look excellent.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for your input,,,I have had some powder coat go flaky on my in the marine world, admittedly a harsher environment. Powder coat is damn near impossible to patch up if it lifts off. Thinking black chrome might be a better choice, and your right, I do like the look even if it is a bit more costly.
Anyone know a good plater?
