Has anyone seen the new 2013 Florida Statute on motorcycle exhaust pipes and the noise they emit? Will they make custom pipe owners change back to original exhaust systems?
It isn't new....it has been around in one form or another since 1974 (Florida Motor Vehicle Noise Prevention and Control Act of 1974).

Whew! I sure am glad my Brand starts with a "C" or the stigma would stick with me forever! ''C'' ?? ??? What you talkin bout, Willis??? Cobra 6-into-6 pipes! Took my longest trip today since I bought my Valk. Wow, 120 miles round trip and almost went deaf! Even have fiberglass packed baffles. Has anyone noticed that when riding your Valk that people refrain from looking your way? It's almost as if your some kind of gang member or something. When I ride my Beemer people look and wave! Maybe it's the evil black paint with all the noise.

Yep, The HD riders will look anywhere else but your way a lot of times. They don't like it when someone has one bigger than theirs ! Lots of threads in the main forum on that subject and pretty funny responses. BTW do you have a full face helmet or a modular? If so they have a tendency to trap the exhaust noise a little more. Don't worry though, eventually your hearing will be just as bad as mine then you wont worry about it as much!

After a few more Rides and a few Get Togethers with a Couple Dozen More Valkyries, You wont care if the other Brand Riders look and wave or not. Most are Just Stunned at What an Awesome Machine You are Riding and the Rest are Trying to Figure out Where They Can Get One.

I doubt there will be any serious decibel testing done here in Florida regardless of the laws on the books. Too many bikes, too many money making bike related events here to have law enforcement get involved in noise testing. May see some isolated incidents here & there but it is expensive both in equipment & manpower to set up Db readings on a regular basis. Maybe if enough straight piped a$$hats ride by a self important public official's house you would see a Db detail set up. Other than that I think LE officers have more important things to worry with.

Couldn't agree more Bert! Very rarely when stopping for fuel, a store, or just sitting at a stoplight does someone not ask about the Valkyrie. With the Valk you can make it as loud or as mellow as you want. It's just pipes...maybe you want a thumping sound and do local riding or perhaps more subdued for road riding. Join us locally for some saddle time. Billyboy or I ride Brooksville a least once a month, meeting at 41 & 54 by Mac's steak house (McDonalds). I won't be there this weekend, have the rear end out to service, change shock bushings and general maintenance. Gonna be a lot of cage traffic out this weekend also. As to the "New Florida Statute on exhaust noise", same old regs; may be enforced in Daytona a couple times a year, or even used locally for a probable cause reason, blasting from stoplight to stoplight redlining the gears, repeatedly riding around a residential neighborhood in first gear taching 5 grand might gain the LEO attention. Lot of laws, rules and regulations in every facet of things. Ride safe, have fun and enjoy life when you can. James

Wow..really? Eddie, self righteous, hardly. Read it again, I don't think he was talking about you, even in a general sense. That is unless you do indeed ride around just trying to make as much noise as possible to annoy people. If so..well..ass hat works for me.

Yesterday I finally put my Beemer back together and took it for a ride. Wow, what a difference in the riding style and comfort. It had been six weeks since I had rode the Beemer and it also has it's merits. Quiet, comfortable, CD changer, cassette player, AM/FM stereo, heated grips, heated seats, electric windshield and full instrumentation! Makes me want to wear a suit when I ride her. I've only had the Valkyrie 3 weeks!

Since I sold the Magna (regret doing that) I have been looking for a VMax but the BMW R1150 R also looks like a pretty cool ride.
If I make the VMax really loud can I be in the ass hat club? Yep...kidding I sure do hope that was a total mis-understanding I was reading there................... As far as I know we are all Good 'ol Florida Valk riders and I do believe we can get along.

To clarify for those who don't get it. An a$$hat is someone who rides by people's houses with their beloved straightpipes blaring at full song. I'm sure we all know the type. If that behavior typifies your style then yes the a$$hat fits. There are those in society that do not appreciate the sound of even a fully baffled stock exhaust motorcycle & want us {all motorcyclists} off the road. The Db testing option is one avenue that those folks will & have taken to open up the door to making our motorcycling hobby more difficult & troublesome. None of my motorcycles have stock exhaust, although I have stock OEM systems in the storage room just in case the laws start getting enforced. If someone lives near a major thoroughfare they should expect to hear a lot of traffic noise coming from all kinds of vehicles. However when the road noise is brought down to a personal level in a residential area the effects can have consequences directed at our hobby. That is my point. If some wish to take it personal then go ahead & do so.

I have had a loud bike (Yamaha SR500 with a Supertrapp muffler) but my current bikes have quiet stock exhausts. I don't want to be the one that is the last straw that gets some kind of bike ban to happen. You know, no motorcycles allowed in the parks, no bikes in residential areas between 10pm and 6am, etc. I do like the sound of a not too loud motorcycle, but not when I'm trying to sleep, and I'll bet many others feel the same way.

Eddie, your earlier post I took exception to because it came across as a blanket statement ... i.e. "straight pipe asshats." None of us like it when non-bikers make incorrect and unfair generalizations... so we shouldn't do it to each other.
You and others may not like loud pipes but that doesn't mean that those of who do are by definition, jackasses. From your follow-up post, we seem to agree that it's not the pipes that make an "asshat," it's the behavior.

Yes it is the behavior. We have what my definition is of an a$$hat a couple blocks away from us. He rides one of those wonderful, legendary American made bikes with unmuffled exhaust. No biggie really except that after the usual 10 minute throttle blipping warm up session he proceeds to leave the neighborhood taching out in every gear, sometimes with a couple of friends. Quite often they arrive home at late hours in the same fashion, I'm sure aggravating the non-rider population of this area. While not straight-piped I'm sure any of my bikes could wake up the 'hood if not ridden in a mature & respectful way as we always do. Short shifting, partial throttle only, coasting when possible can keep even a straight pipe equipped bike's noise level down to respectful levels when in proximity of residences. Common sense is all that is needed unless we want full enforcement of the Florida noise laws. Sorry if anyone misread my first post.

I had a former next door neighbor like that... he would take off and return at something close to full throttle EVERY cursed time he'd go out. My kids were little back then so besides it being incredibly obnoxious it was very dangerous on a narrow residential street. One day I couldn't take it any more so when he arrived home, I went and knocked on his door and told him the next time he did that I was going to kick his ass and put a 12 gauge slug through his engine. He told me to go fornicate with myself and slammed the door but strangely enough, I didn't hear his bike at all for the next three months at which time we moved. Too bad... I was wondering what a 12 gauge slug would actually do to a v-twinkie engine. I pretty much idle coming and going through my neighborhood and so far in the year I've lived here, so far no one has knocked on my door threatening to kick MY ass.
