Working on a friends 03 wing. He heard that the 06 and up has higher geared rearend. Does anyone know if there is any difference. He has come across a low milage 06 rear and wants to swap if there is a difference. Thanks

1800 wings have a single sided swing arm. Nothing will match.

Thanks Texhood.

Jeff K, they are both 1800 wings. Just trying to see if there is any difference in the gear ratio between 03 and 06 wings.

Thanks

Usually you count the ring gear teeth and divide by the Pinion teeth  so for example I had a 4:56 rear end in a Hotrod of mine 9/41

Another way though not as accurate

Make a Chalk Line on the Tire

Get access to the drive Shaft ( visually not removed)

and turn the wheel and count rotations  pretty much same math as above if memory serves me.

if nothing else you may not know the gear ratio in my second suggestion but you can see how far off if any, should clue you in on if one is different, between the two Bikes ( i'm assuming you are going to have two GL1800's next to you of diff years) .

I have a 2006 GL1800 but never knew there was a diff in gear ratios

if I had a Higher gear then my buddies '03 I would think I would get better milage then him

and he usually gets better then me , but as of late my Bike is getting broke in more and we near tie.

Carful about swapping , another words if your buddy  happens to go to Fleabay for those Trike Take off goodies. There are suttle differences in GL1800 's  for example drive shaft lengths , so point being might be diff in final drives too. Best to research first . Wish I could help more .

Update :  aparently There was Changes to Drive Shaft Length between '01-'09 but the rear ends should
all be the same. The changes took place in the engine output shaft requiring a different length drive shaft.

I never heard of the gears being of a different ratio to date anyways.

In Fact I always wished I could add a different gear. I was also hoping in the new wings
in like 2011 or so they would add a 6th gear.
