We Had A Great Turn-out and We Are Thankful For Those That Could Attend and Those That Couldn't Attend Were Greatly Missed. Without All Of You This Could Not Have Happened. Thunderbolt,  Those were sandhill cranes.  They can be a PIA.  At breeding time they see their reflection in the windows of our Florida room and peck holes in the screens.

Thanks again Bert & Sherrie. Outstanding shindig! The live band was a great touch, and the BBQ chicken as well as the rest of the food was excellent! Nice to see that many of us in one location. Sort of a mini Florida InZane.  cooldude

Hi Gil,
The Guy That Lived In the Tent Moved On To Someone Else's Yard To Camp In. They Live A Little Deeper In The Woods. He Is Still In The Forest Though, And Has Been Working Some, Keeping Himself Busy.

What Roger Said, They Are Sandhill Cranes and They Hang Around Here Quite Often, Eating Worms And Bugs Out In The Yard. They Don't Peck At Our Screens Or Windows Like They Do At Rogers, Maybe There Is Plenty For Them To Eat In The Yard.

So Bert do you think if I feed them they will stay away from my screens.  I'd rather shoot them but that is highly illegal.  They only attack the screens when they are breeding.  The dumb males think someone else is infringing on their territory.  I had to haul all my screens home last summer to replace the screen material. Itr is actually illegal to feed them according to a state wildlife person I talked to trying to find a way to keep them away.

It Would Probably Be Easier To Put Up Some Kind Of Barrier,Short Fence or Something of That Sort To Discourage Them From Getting That Close To The Screens.

I still think it would be easier to shoot them.
I actually did about what you suggested.  The FL wildlife guy told me to string fishing line 36" up and 36" out and I have done that.  Won't know if it works for a couple of weeks when they start their mating behaviour.
It really is a pain as we have 8 windows that are 36"x60" and they destroyed every screen last spring.
They nest in the retention pond behind our unit and every day they walk between our unit and the one next door.  If the male catches a glimps of his reflection he needs to attack to keep suitors away from his mate.  I personally don't think she is that attractive to begin with.
