Are you all really interested?

I was putting it off waiting to see if/when I might have cataract surgery.  But as of now it may be put off for a good while.  Feel like I have been the object of a 'bait and switch' tactic.  Last week for the following information.

Oh, cataract surgery, Medicare will take care of that.  But with laser surgery we can correct this and that would cost about $1,800 per eye.  And if you want to replace your bad lenses in your eyes we can do that along with the surgery and your total cost will only be about $4,800 per eye.

Going from free for improved vision to $10,000 is a BIG HICKEY.

If I get some decent response I will get right on it and get things set up.

Think they borrowed those tactics from car sales people?

So…seein' how there has not been any chatter about the subject, I'm speculating that the Mid-Winter Gathering is not happening for 2014… Sad

As there was very little apparent interest plus I have been working on possible cataract surgery I just let is slide by this year.

I initially tried checking into using a different motel and they took about 3 weeks to send back a quote that they promised in 24 hours, and the price was well OVER $100.

Maybe next year if there is more interest shown.

Thanks for checking.

Ray, I'm just catching up with this thread and was a tad confused by your comments re Medicare and cataract surgery.  Mind you, tho, I'm easily confused these days!  My wife developed some pretty severe sight problems as a result of a health issue she went through a few years back.  She was seeing her normal ophthalmologist  as well as a retina specialist who worked together on the timing of her cataract surgery.  So, when the time came she goes through the surgery one eye at a time over a two month period. All worked out well outside of some eye infections that required some pretty expensive medication.  That said, she is on Medicare, and has a pretty decent supplemental policy.  We never received a bill for any of the work, including the lens replacement.  The prescription meds for the infection were the only thing we were out-of-pocket for since it wasn't on the list of approved drugs under her part D coverage. You might recheck the information you received for your pending surgery.  Maybe someone slipped you some incorrect information.

John

PS: My wife just reminded me that her surgery was about 4 years ago.  So, that pre dates the robbing of Medicare to make the ACA more affordable.  I suppose it is possible that things have changed Medicare coverage wise over the course of 4 years.

Hey Charlie.  I would join you for a ride over to DS to take in that dinner, but I'll be finishing up a treatment regimen that Saturday in Houston.  Maybe another time soon tho.

Information I got was that Medicare would take care of the actual cataract surgery, BUT, the lens replacement and fixing astigmatism would end up costing me close to $10,000 our of pocket.

I plan on doing further research on the subject.

Thanks for comments.

Wow, everybody is having "procedures" and such! Sad

Ray, I hope you're able to figure things out to get your eye fixed.  I just found out that I have to have a dental procedure that will suck away my down payment for the new Valkyrie -- and, that's with dental insurance!  Guess I'll just have to win the lottery! angel

Here's a couple of pics from yesterday's ride.  These were taken on FM 473 not far from Sisterdale -- possible Mid-Winter Gathering route

That sign on the right sorta' sums that road up quite nicely!

Well, maybe us CenTex-ers will do a mini Mid-Winter Gathering ride next Saturday…MMWGR!

The weather should be good all weekend and am available both days.  If the forecast pans out, I would even be happy to do a short breakfast run to Blanco/Fred'burg/Bandera/etc.  Still looking forward to my first ride with the CENTEX crowd!
