Wife and I will be spending some time in your area this winter.  Jan 27 - Mar 13.  On our way down now (Phoenix) from British Columbia Canada.  Thought I had both bikes in tip top shape but the valk has developed a fork seal leak.  Now I know this may be a stretch but if any of you have a lift, seal driver, and could spare the time I would do the job myself.  left the seal driver at home and no room for the lift!.  I just don't like letting the stealer touch the bikes.

Thanks

Florida is a big state so it might help if you said where you are going to be at....

Hi Warren, sorry your bike has developed a problem.  I won't volunteer anyone in particular, but know that a couple of folks on the board have done this and have the equipment.  Luckily I have not had that problem to this point, so no experience on that procedure.  I would bet that someone will volunteer to help.  I don't know what part of the state you end up in, but if no one else speaks up I have a lift, but no seal driver.  I wouldn't mind learning the process.  I am 20 miles N. of Gainesville however in the cold Northern part of the state.

Also, have you tried the 35mm film trick ? See if there is just a stuck piece of debris there?

Thanks gentlemen for the replies.  We will be enjoying Floridas beautiful State Parks.  Starting with Stephen Foster Folk cultural Center (1 week) and then on to Silver Springs (2 weeks) and  finally Lake Louisa (2 weeks).   Thunderbolt,  Sounds like we will be near you.  I will need to come up with the driver and a set of seals.  Is there a local honda dealer nearby.  Maybe I could borrow their driver.

Interstate Honda is in Lake City Fl.  Streits Honda is in Gainesville.  You might try the film trick that Pappy mentioned first.  Or a plastic soda bottle cut into a shape that might fit between the seal and the tube.

Hi Longrider I Live 17 Miles East Of Silver Springs  Just South Of SR-40 And I Have A Jack And Tools To Do The Job, Except A Seal Driver. From What I Have Seen One Can Easily Be Made From A Piece Of PVC. I Am Around The House During The Week And May Be Able To Assist You .When You Get In The Area You Can Call Me @ 352-625-6 Four Four 8.

I Have To Replace The Seals On One Of My Valk's This Week And Will Make and Have A Seal Install Tool on Hand.

There Is Also A Honda Dealer In Ocala To get Parts And Fork Oil. They Will Also Match Honda Directline's  Prices On Parts.

Two years ago my right fork seal started leaking badly on the way to inZane.
With all the help at ground zero, I obtained a lift, seals, fluid, tools, a manual,
a driver and rebuilt the leaker in the parking lot, and it worked great.

Last year on the way to inZane my left fork started leaking badly, and Trout Dude
and Mitch ran the sealmate tool on my fork while drinking a beer, and it
worked great.

I'll never foo-foo "the film trick" again, it is not snake oil... and, when it works,
is lots better than rebuilding a fork on the road.

When Bill rebuilt my forks, he used a piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe he has cut to drive the seals in. Worked like a champ.

I found it was this schedule 40 coupling that did the trick...

It might be a 1 1/2 coupling... when I tried to tell someone once what size
it was, I remembered wrong, that's why I took that picture... a coupling goes
on the outside of the pipe, so that's probably not a 2 inch coupling... anywho,
that picture shows how to measure for the right sized coupling...

Well, went to visit my brother here in Phoenix this aft.  He has a 99 IS I work on.  Maybe last sept he had a seal go and bought a pair.   I only installed one.  He still had the spare in his bag so I am set for parts.

I will let you know when I arrive at Stephen foster

Thanks

Here's a pic of the Seal Mate.  Might well be worth the money, $5, if it's only a dirty seal rather than a bad seal.
