what I really need to know is this; i have taken the carbs off and rebuilt them and while they were out I did the de-smog and just used vacuum plugs on all the carbs. I also plugged 5 of the intake runners and plan on running a hose from the petcock to runner # 6, but on the # 3 carb there are 2 ports and I'm not sure what to do with the bottom port. Does it get plugged or does a hose need to be on it and if so where does the other end of the hose go? I installed a crankcase breather filter on the diaphram that has the 2 #6 hoses going to the top vent rail on each carb bank but there is a small port on the diaphram also do I just plug that too? I have asked this several times on several different posts and haven't gotten any results so I was thinking that if I could post pictures of what I am asking than maybe someone would understand what I am asking.

With a desmog, there is nothing on the carburetors that need attention (or anything done to them).
The intake runners need the hose barbs capped off, with the exception for a stock petcock.
You are trying to do something (whatever that is) to the carburetors that is not correct.

"IF" you have a California bike (charcoal canister under the swing arm), during a desmog, you need to unscrew the nipple on the bottom of #3 carb and put a set screw in it to plug the hole. I had a picture of the port on the bottom of #3 somewhere, but can't seem to find it now. EDIT - Found it. The set screw is just to the right of the Pilot Screw in this picture. <\EDIT> Hay Jimmyt

Really? Remove that doodad? Never heard that one before, well I have something to check on mine now. Maybe it's related to my miss or pop issue at idle after it's getting close to full warm?
I think I have a rubber cap on it now. Thanks another thing to do tomorrow.

Only if you are going to de-smog the bike. That line should run to the canister under the bike when stock. AtticRat schooled me on that one... Hay Jimmyt

Ricky the reason that I am plugging the carbs is because after I replaced all 6 Vacuum hoses that come off the 6 way T it said to PLUG this tube. So I figured that if it wanted me to plug the T then I would just remove the vacuum hoses and plug the carbs. Talk about cleaning up the valley. I did replace the 6 drain hoses and they are the only hoses still under there. I also bought a new hose to run from the #6 intake runner to go back to the petcock. Hayhauler I did not know that I had a California bike so Thank you I was starting to wonder if I just didn't understand what I was talking about Also does that mean that I can't just cap it off? Wiggy, got the IM Thank you for that I think I will check into photostash on the site. can you point me in the right direction to find it. Thanks to everyone for all your knowledge So after I get answers to these last couple of questions I will be reinstalling the carbs, Then onto changing the rear to a car tire and doing all the stuff for a final drive and rearend service. I bought some #2 lithium grease that is high temp, Extreme pressure, water resistant will that work instead of belray? also bought some honda 60 moly and some Mobil synthetic (hypoid) oil All the O'rings and thrush washer Thanks again, Tony

Yes, it has a blower. I had a little trouble tuning it, but it was worth it. With a Goodyear triple tread on the back it's hard to keep the front wheel on the road!

Being unfamiliar with the California carburetors, all I will say is that those are vents that are meant to route the vapors from the gasoline to the canister as the California law dictates.
Being a vent, it doesn't matter whether you plug them, or not, but I would just leave them alone because any other method of venting may not be available since they are California edition, and they definitely do not need a vacuum on them.

Hope this fits in with this thread,, has anyone tried putting a single or two barrel carb on a blower type intake and see if It runs,, without the blower. Just fabricate a carb plate/adaptor straight to the intake? I would like that. ???

Yep, it was tried and didn't seem to go over very well. Our 6 carburetors are about as bullet proof as you can get. And, didn't we buy these monsters because of those kewl looking 6 chrome covered things ?
