 I know that I ask the same question before.I was hoping somebody that knows and didn't see it before would see it this time.I'm amazed that no seems to know. At least so far.

That simply means a new entry such as mine now will move this post to the top of the board. Some will simply enter the word "bump" if they feel the issue involved deserves to be brought up anew.

As for the longevity of the rings and general motor integrity, I certainly wouldn't be concerned....at least not at 100k miles.

  I'm not worried about the reliability I'm just curious. They are probably nitrated rings like most Jap cars.

When gas nitride treated steel pistons rings first came about, it was mainly for racing applications and high performance motors. It was limited to the top compression ring mainly and the friction surface only.

Honda did not use nitride treated steel piston rings in the Valkyrie motors, nor nitride treated stainless piston rings either.
