Trying to decide if I wanna take a trip from Tampa, Fl up to Sumter, SC. Don't know if I'm "hard core" to stand the cold. Longest trip I've made has only been 300 miles round trip. Wanna go check on some property I have and see couple of friends. Probably need to buy some long johns and gloves.

It's been a pretty harsh winter. You might wanna give it some real thought on the when to go part....especially without some motorcycle specific electric powered gloves, jackets, vests, socks, etc.

There is an alternative for me! Heated seat, heated grips, adjustable wind screen, CD, AM/FM etc. and no 6-into-6 exhaust noise!

I rode my Goldwing Trike to N.Carolina in the Spring and it was 30 degrees when I started home and the heated Seat and Grips ,Long Johns ,Gloves, Face Mask, Coat and Chaps really didn't make that much difference with 25 mph winds. It was still cold and I was chafed with windburned when I got home. I think I would wait a week or two before I went , but that is just me speaking from experience. Ride Safe, Bert

Of course I know your right about holding off awhile! Just got the itch to go somewhere. I'm now considering a shorter trip up to Quincy, Florida. It's little North of Tallahassee by the Georgia border. It's 4.5 hours by car so would be an all day trip by bike due to stopping at different places I would like to see.

I bought my bike from up around Columbus Ohio and rode it to Cleveland than back home to Tallahassee. I stopped and did some riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I kept my rides to about 3.5 hours in the morning and afternoons. Stayed at some nice clean hotels where I could explore the surrounding areas.
That was my first long distance ride. I regularly ride about 4-hours on the weekend trying to visit new places.
I want to ride back to the mountains in the summer, if only to see some curvy roads. Let me know if you come thru the neighborhood, maybe we could meet up.

30 degree temps ain't no fun unless you've got heated gear. Heck, even on the Beemer with that excellent wind protection it has, and heated gear I get uncomfortable at 31 degrees. Nice looking LT.

Yup, your also right! Today was a beautiful spring like day. Spent the day polishing my front rim and just riding around with no particular place to go!
You have a nice Beemer also! I wonder if you and I are the only ones that have the same pair? LoL

While I didn't go to South Carolina, I did ride up to visit a college friend in Stone Mountain, Ga.. Left Friday morning at 5:30 am, bloody cold, hit rain off and on. Farther north the colder it got. Had to overnight in Macon. Had not been up to Stone Mountain area for a couple of years. Left Sunday morning and overnighted in Valdosta, got home Monday. As far as the cold, I had long underware, 2 pairs of socks, 2 shirts and insulated shirt, a baklava and neck cover, rain gear top and pants, leather chaps, leather jacket with the liner, and my reflective vest, as well as lined riding gloves. Had to leave my visor cracked open most of the time due to fogging up inside. My feet got cold off and on. Worst part was the need to stop at the rest areas for a personal break, It took five minutes to shed the gear and another 5 to put it back together; and the coffee was flowing at each stop. Good road time overall, now that I'm back home!

After all the suggestions I think I'll postpone a long trip until the weather permits me to wear a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops! What a sight that would be! LoL

Ohhhh Nooooo! My neighbor has been admiring my Beemer for a long time. After buying my Valkyrie he has been trying to buy it from me and I told him I just didn't really want to sell. He came over, a little while ago, and made an offer I just couldn't refuse. Soooo I got to let her go. Since I bought my Valk in November I have really fallen in "love" with it and have been thinking about buying a Honda 1000 or 1100 and coming up with my own home grown Cafe style bike. Selling the Beemer will give me more room to get another bike. Besides that he said any time I want to use the Beemer I could take her. He's not much of a wrench turner and I know there will dues to be paid in it's maintenance needs.
