Since this thread has morphed into a fuel capacity in general question...which is good btw...I have another one. It seems like an IS tank AND a belly tank is really the way to go. No more fuel concerns at all. Can a belly tank be installed with a Darkside tire mounted?

yes. center stand no.  that's what I know from posts, don't have the belly tank.
another option, there are many posts with an aux tank attached to the back rest luggage rack.

Absolutely love the Belly Tank.  One of the best mods ever (thanks again fordmano).  I'm regularly riding at 80mph or above so I don't get the gas mileage some of you do, but I go about 225-240 miles before switching to reserve.

I put one on my tourer few months back and love it, love the extra gas and it just looks right for this machine, it looks beefy like it supposed to be. one more advantage besides the extra gas is that the I/S tank comes witha fuel sending unit which you can use the wire to install a fuel gauge to be able to visually see your gas level. i did just that as well. bought a moteseen fuel guage, its a minuture exact match to the OEM tech and speedo and its plug and play. if you have velocity stacks on your bike make sure you shim the tank before you put on. I think you willl love it.

Hmm...strange! I will generally run about 75 on the interstate and go to reserve at about the same mileage, and I don't have the belly tank.

Yeah, I tend to get around 30mpg.  I guess I have a lead wrist.  I weigh 255lbs too, maybe that has something to do with it.

My mileage runs a bit better, closer to 34-35 loaded for travel. Plus you have about 40lbs. on me so that together probably makes a big difference over time. Before I added the fairing and I/S pods I was constantly running around 38/39 mpg on a trip. That, plus my size 12.5's hanging out in the wind on the pegs has caused a drop.  Wink

Plus the further you get above 3000 rpms the worse mileage she gets.

Yup, except for one trip I made. Was headed NW into a nasty headwind, made the bike feel like it was missing because it was gusting so hard. The safest speed I could maintain was right around 60 and when I fille up I realized I had only averaged 26mpg. Finally gave up and hit the hotel early, it quieted down overnight and I made good time the next day....back into the mid 30's.
