Hello from across the pond cooldude I've just received a UJ from a seller on Ebay uk. It looks like new. But I noticed one of the bearing cups was stuck out causing side play. I knocked it back in which fixed the play, but the reason it had come out is because the bearing housing was not peened over like the other three. Got to have been like that from Honda?
Like I said the whole joint looks like new with nice clean fresh grease oozing out from the bearings and clean lithium type grease on the splines.
The seller as offered a refund, but I'm going to send it to a drive shaft specialist to get it peened and checked out.

What do you think? I payed £48 for it with shipping [$80] £200 new over here. I don't actually need it, I bought it for a spare. A few of us ride Valks  Cool

I hate to give any real advice, as I have never seen a new, from the factory u-joint. But, if that one was mine, I would do the same thing you are going to do. If there is no play in the joint, it should work like its supposed to. cooldude

Looks like the original one that's in my Valk. The pics of the rebuilt ones all showed that the staking marks had been milled out to allow snap rings to be installed.  Have it checked, staked and run it.

I would have to send it back.  If it is new, Honda would not have shipped it with one of the cups un-staked.  Maybe the shop you take it to can verify that it is good and stake that one side.  But I would no trust it unless a driveline shop can check and repair it.

A questionable spare is not what I would want to have....my advice send it back, get your refund and find another.

I don't believe that "spiking" one cup would make the U-joint "questionable"

I do believe it would make it useable.

Reliability can only be measured by using it!

And in addition, it will not explode.

Just thought I'd throw that in!
