As I get older, (63 years) the miles my butt and lower back can take, seem to be getting shorter. I still have the stock Interstate seat. I am looking at the Ultimate seat. Anyone that has an Ultimate seat ever regret their decision? Please post Pros and Cons. Thanks in advance.

I have two Valks and put Ultimate seating on both. Not the end all for seating but much more comfortable than stock seating. Fit and finish are excellent. We're all built different and some of us adapt and conform better than others. I don't think you would be sorry. FWIW

I bought one last February.
Got over 10k on it, great seat.
I did a trip from MA to GA and back last fall and never did my butt get sore.
I got the drivers backrest and would suggest that to anyone.
I used a sheep skin cover also.
I've got a tourer OEM, a interstate OEM, a Mustang w/ backrest and the Ultimate big boy w/ backrest and the Ultimate is the one I go to.

Got the big boy. Love it. Backrest too, is awesome. Considering the low rider though just for alittle less height. Only thing about the seat is that the material seems alittle tender. Will see how it holds up long term. Wish they made a leather version.

I have been riding on an Ultimate Big Boy since Inzane 5. It is much, much better than the OEM version. However, when I bought my V-Strom, I had a Russell seat built for it. In my opinion, Russell is the way to go for total comfort. I wish that I had put one on the Valk several years ago. I still might do it yet this Winter.

At Inzane VI (and perhaps other Inzanes) Ultimate Seats was letting people test ride their seats. I took a Big Boy for a long ride and loved it; a big improvement over my OEM 2000 Tourer seat. Later I took a Low boy for a shorter ride, and found that it was comparable in comfort to my OEM seat. I'm 5'10" and was probably about 195 lbs. at the time. I'm still waiting for the Big Boy four piece set to move to the top of my priority spending list. I REALLY hope I can swing it in time for my Inzane trip this year.

I went to Ultimate from OEM 97 seat, so I'd probably think anything is good ... I have to wonder about those Russell Day Long seats... they have those funny looking flaps out to the side, sometimes after day three or four in the saddle I imagine being supported by that extra surface area... -Mike "Ultimate seats are good..."

Motorider, I too am 63 years old and just did a little ride (6000 miles) back in late August. I don't know your physical stats but I do know the comfort level Ultimate seats provide over stock seats and most of their competition. I have ridden all of them and found my first trip on the Ultimate King Big Boy (the 6000 miler) was the most pleasurable for me. As one approaches old age, one loses muscle tone in the glutes and thus loses support in that region of the body which is magnified by road bumps and general riding vibrations especially with distance riding. One day in the ride we did 800 miles and I wasn't the oldest in the group. To get to the point, try the Ultimate King before you make your purchase because I have found it to be the softest of the seats and it keeps my hips from bottoming out as I ride. My two cents, G

I've had OEM pre-2000, OEM post-2000, Mustang, Corbin, Ultimate King Big Boy, and now Russell Daylong. By far... and I mean by far.... the Russell Daylong is the seat to have. It's custom made to your dimensions and those side bolster things is what makes the seat the most comfortable out there. I've ridden my Russell for four years and have one being made for JoJo's trike as we speak.... will never use anything else.

I'm 5'9' 190 and the Ultimate site recommended the Lowboy for my size. I got it and like it a great deal. The high nose on that seat has been sited by more than a few as a deal breaker leading to sore nuts. While I too had the occasional nut twinges on that seat, that was only a couple times. Good supportive undergarmets solved that issue for me, unlike commando or boxers.
Then I bought a 2d valk that came with an Ultimate Bigboy seat. It is taller, fatter and flatter, and the seat nose still comes up a little (but much less than the lower Lowboy), and to me that seat is much better than the Lowboy for all day comfort. And I had no ill effect from being taller in the saddle, getting my feet down easily, and your legs a bit less bent at the knees going to the center controls of the bike.
Between the Lowboy and Bigboy, I recommend the Bigboy even if the Ultimate site steers you toward the Lowboy........... unless you have a real worry about flat footing the bike with both legs at all times.
And both have the driver's backrest which I cannot do without.
Remember, if buying new seats, and not ordering any variation from factory stitching, Ultimate lets you return any seat for any reason for 10-14 days or so. You could order one, and if unsure, return it and order the other, and either keep it or return it for the first one. Of course it would be better to just swap seats with a simple key-turn with other valk guys that have these seats, if you ride with any.

I'm 5'7"...30" inseam...got a Lowboy and rode it for a summer....tried a Bigboy at Inzane and sold the Lowboy for a Bigboy with backrest.....worked well for ME...yours and others opinions, thoughts, ideas, butts and "boys" etc. may vary / differ.
Your best bet would be to test ride both if you get a chance...maybe attend the Inzane this year?

Just know that Ultimate seats are a very wide seat. If you have any problems flat footing now, adding more width to a seat will only compound that issue.

I've heard good reviews on the ultimate seats, but have no experience with them. I have a Mustang and I'm very happy with it. A big improvement over the stock seat!

So many choices! I`m 5`8" tall. While the Big Boy seat sounds to be more comfortable then the Lowboy, I`m afraid I am too short to fit that seat. The last thing I want is to be an inch taller in the seat. I hadn`t looked at the Russell until it was suggested. I`m not sure which seat will meet my needs the best. I guess I will keep doing research until I make a decision. All replies are appreciated!

I have a 1st edition of a Ultimate seat. It was like InZane 2 or 3. I would not buy a seat if I couldn't get a back rest, that is a must have.
I sent it back because the leather was starting to tear at a staple. He didn't have another leather in stock but made a deal with me on a vinyl one with a backrest.
I'd estimate this seat has about 200K miles under my butt and I don't ever remember having a butt burn. It has had some very high miles and length in time in this 200K miles.
My Yamaha Royal Venture, I had before the Valk had a Russell Day Long, built to fit my fat a$$.
I liked that seat, but wasn't sure I would under me on the Valk. I think if I had it to do over again, I'd have gone with the Russell Day Long.
I know a nice sweet young lady Valk rider who has a Russell Day Long, she loves it, I also think her husband has one on his Valk.
Like what has been said above, swap seats with someone, it is just a matter of turning a key a presto you are off.
Good luck in your search, you do realize any seat you buy is strickly your decision and it should fit your butt, large, medium or small in size.

I put an Ulltimate Low-boy with backrest and passenger seat with fold up arm-rest on my 97 standard..Wife loves the armrest , we both love the seats. I am 5'8" 160 so I installed 11-1/2" Progressives and slipped the forks 3/4" ....now I'm flat footed.

Actually, the Ultimate Low Rider is narrow in the nose (but taller in the nose). I have 3 seats, an Ultimate Low Rider, Corbin and Stocker. I was trying them out today.... pulled off the Ultimate and put on the stocker, then took it off and hung it back on the wall hook. Then I tried the Corbin... firmer and wider in the nose than the Ultimate. I am going to keep the Corbin on and give that a try to see how I like it (once I start riding after the snow melts and salt gets washed away).
Where in PA are you located? If local to the Burgh, I could let you sit on the 3 I have to get a feel. Picking out a seat is difficult. I had an Ultimate on my VTX 1800R and got a Low Rider on the Valk after I brought it home and got rid of the Mustang. Mustang was nice on a long trip from Arkansas back to Pittsburgh (when I got it), but I kept sliding forward when I came to a stop.... only thing I hated about that seat I think. Ultimate has been very nice and comfy, but I have since put on some weight and need a little room for the twins to be comfortable (little cramped on the Low Rider).... it all depends on your height, weight etc with Ultimate.... or any other seat for that matter actually. Recently picked up a Corbin and feels ok in the riding position but at a stop light (especially with the taller Austone tire) it might be a little different.... as the nose on the Corbin is a bit wider than the Ultimate. I will see when the weather and roads clear up.

PaValker, Thanks for the offer. I live near Bloomsburg Pa. about three hours due east of Pittsburg. I ordered a Ultimate Lowboy this afternoon. The main reason I went with that seat is because I will sit lower. Also my wife liked the looks of that seat most. I got the four piece set with the blinker buddy and a blue dragon embroidered in the passenger backrest. We are going to bike week in Myrtle Beach, then over to the Dragons Tail. I wanted a new seat for several years and never bought one. As I`m not getting any younger, today was the day.

I got a new 4-piece lowboy set for my '99 interstate too, some years ago.
You won't regret it (until the credit card bill comes in LOL).
PS I never got the rain covers they sell, but do carry a small half cover on trips to keep downpours off the seats when on the road. Bikes are always inside at home, but I've ridden in rain many times, and my seats have been plenty wet, and never taken on a drop of water. I do use a toothbrush to mink oil the vinyl seat seams (lightly) about once a year.

You should be good to go. You might have to adjust the bars a bit... might not, but consider it after you change the seat.

Hey Motorider I am interested in purchasing an Ultimate seat also. Like you not sure on which on to get. I was wondering would it be possible to sit on your seat. I am close to you and down in the Bloomsburg area quite a bit. Ps I take my bike over to J & B when it needs service that I can not due. Mike

Size-wise, I'm one of the guys the lowrider is supposed to be for, but I hated mine. My advice is not to buy any seat until you test ride it for at least an afternoon.

Too late, already ordered. I live in the middle of no where Pennsylvania. I have no idea where I could get my hands on any brand of seat, just to try it out. Thanks for your opinion! What did you hate about your Ultimate?

What did you hate about your Ultimate? Again, I'm talking about the lowrider. The Big Boy is a completely different experience. What makes the lowrider sit lower is that it's more deeply scooped. You really do sit in it and not on it. I never put the lowrider side by side with a Big Boy, but I'd suspect that the overall height (ground to seat top) at the rear of the two is the same. The problem for me - and I ain't bragging - is that it seemed like the front was the same overall height, too, that there was way too much padding at the front of the seat, and things got way too crowded down there, if you know what I mean. If you wear your jeans tight, you might be OK. I like loose-fitting jeans. Another thing to pay attention to is the return/exchange policy. Between the time I ordered and received mine, I bought another bike and by the time I got back to installing the lowrider, the exchange window had closed. I knew before I got to the end of the block the first time I rode it that the seat would not work for me, but I was stuck with it. I could have had it modified and it might have worked out, but I wound up selling it to someone who got a really good deal. Lucky for me, the 2000 & up Standard/Tourer seat works just fine. I hope your new seat works for you!

Disco, I have read several reviews that have expressed the same crotch discomfort you are talking about. (Once again after I placed my order.) I hope Ultimate Seats have heard the same feedback, and adjusted the stuffing, in the front of the seat. One reviewer said this was a problem until he added cruiser pegs. I already have cruiser pegs and use them quite often. All in all, I just have to wait and see how the Lowboy fits me and mine. Thanks for the reply!

Pics of Lowrider on Kim's Valk. Although Kim does not need the low seat as she has a 34" inseam with no problems reaching the ground on most any bike, she says the low seat height of the LR seat makes her feel more in control of the bike. When I get off of either of my King Big Boy equipped Valks onto hers I notice how much further forward it puts me. I have riser extensions on both my Valks & Kim's has stock risers but arm position feels the same. Regardless, you can't go wrong with an Ultimate seat! All 3 of ours have them!

That underlines how much more there is to the right seat than comfort. I tried a Corbin for a few weeks and didn't like how it sat me back, I felt less "in control", and put my Ultimate back on.
