I have been using Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w-40 'high mileage' for about 15,000 miles. I like it but some say its to thin. Is it? Going to Sturgis next week and like to change oil before I leave and when I return. All highway and interstate. Temps around 90-100. I finally found Rotella synthetic but its a 5w-40. Is this ok? Or should I try the Delac(sp) 15w-40 oil?

Put the Mobil 1 in it and forget about it.

MGM has had more Mobil 1 run throught it than about 4 normal bikes.

No firkin problems,

@ 242,000 + change I'm starting to get some smoke at start up, but I blame it on valve seals.

Fudgie, any oil which is rated at ??w40 will be 40 weight oil at operating temp. The number before the w is the viscosity at 0 degrees. You don't ride when it's 0 do ya?

RJ,
checkout http://auto-rx.com/index.html    I can attest that it works like stated. Haven't used it in the bike but am using it in my 99 dakota 5.2L. The engine had a blow-by problem, which now has subsided after the auto-rx treatment.
u can read many more actual cases at www.bobistheoilguy.com

Here is some reading on motor oils  and how they try to achieve different qualities when they formulate them.  The sections on Viscosity Index Improvers and synthetics may help you in making a decision on what oil you want to run.

Ok now that makes sense. Never understood what it all meant. Think I'll leave it in and change it when I come back unless theres some specials running. Only got 3,000 miles on this oil. Missed ya at the cookout last weekend.

I use Mobile 1 in my cars and trucks.  Change the oil every 20,000 miles.  No problems.  Do not need to add oil between changes.

I now use Mobile 1 MC oil in my bikes.  I change the oil every winter.  Grin
