Does anybody have a good guestimate of the reserve on an I/S gas tank when you install a pingle w/o extending the tube?  All donations gratefully received Smiley

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I once got 8 miles on resv, but that was 2 up with trailer. I'm guessing 20 miles, if that.

Pretty close to a quart, however far that takes you.

Why not extend the tube? No big deal, just sweat it on like you would a copper water pipe. Only difference is you'll have to install an inline filter since the Pingel filter will no longer fit over the tube similar to the OEM setup. I did this about 18 months ago, installed an inline filter and electric shutoff...mainly because the Pingel is manual and I just knew I'd forget to shut it off sometime. I just went to the local hobby shop and took the Pingel with me, found some model airplane fuel line that just slipped on the Pingel. At home, just sand down the shiney Pingel tube, lay the OEM petcock next to it and measure how much extra tube you need to add. Cut it about a half in longer, slide it on to the Pingel and solder in place. Now, for about 30 minutes of work you have reserve comparable to the OEM petcock.

Nice work, John.  Looks good.  I'll have to figure out how to sweat pipe so as to do that.

To answer Old Grouch's question:
I made it 17 miles on reserve once.  City driving, one up, on a bike that rarely got over 30 mpg.  I ran out as I pulled (or should I say "coasted") into the gas station.

I just got a pingel.  It is just slightly shorter than oem.
Have they changed the length?
Are your Pingels just a little shorter, or a lot?
Thanks.

Thanks for the info.  I already have an inline filter, installed by PO.  The reason I was considering not extending the tube is that with the inline filter & quick disconnect w/loop, I don't see enough room to put in the electric shut off.  Was going to put the shut off in place of the inline filter.  Thoughts??  Stan

Installed the Danmark valve in front of the inline filter, the inline filter is in front of the Pingel going toward the fuel line "T" where it splits off to each carb bank. In my case, I mounted the shutoff right over the rear brace for the carb bank, then used a zip tie to hold it in place. Had it in nearly two years now, no problem. You do have to pull the tank to install it there however, so I used the time to also replace all the fuel line while in there.
