OK, the oil seals were in upside down.  Now for the oil.  I used a zip tie for a dipstick.  The left side took 2 oz less than recommended and the right side took 5 oz less.  I have to assume that the right side holds a lot more oil if your not doing a complete dis assemble.  Anyway, I hope everything is good, because I have it all back together.

I, yes me.  I put the seals in upside down.   uglystupid2  Went all the way to the UP of MI with them leaking.  What a mess by the time I got back.

It would be a great thing to add to a "sticky" or tech article search if you'd write up your experience so that others don't make the same mistake.  Pictures would help too.
