I'd like to wire in a socket for my GPS on my 99 I/S. I have the wire ran back to the battery but I want the power to be off when the bike is off. Isn't there a acc wire behide the left sidecover to tab into?

The Interstate may be different than a Std but on a Std, the ACC wire is behind the right side cover. There should be a black boot with two wires going into it and nothing leaving it. I think one wire is green and the other has a red tracer on it. That is the ACC wire that will turn off with the ignition switch.

i just wired my GPS yesterday!  on the interstate there's a white wire harness with three plugs on it, the green wire is ground, the middle wire is switched 12vdc and the one opposite of the green is constant 12vdc.

oh yeah, that wire harness is under the right side cover, rapped in the rubber boot.

On an Interstate, you'll have to check the voltage of the wires you find.  There are also two wires in there that are for the optional passenger push-to-talk switch.  They will show voltage when tested, but not as high as the accessory wires will.

This doesn't exactly address your question but if you haven't done so, a powered "buss bar" install is a good idea. I powered accessories from the battery but installed a relay on the accy wire to triger the buss bar to battery circuit when the ingition was on.  Easy and effective.

Alph.  That 3 lead white connector is actually for the CB.  There is a pair of accessory leads (ground & switched) rated at 5 amps for accessories or to trigger an accessory fuse panel.  Since you most likely don't have a CB, what you've used is just fine for a low-load application.

I just did this last week, now the horn is on the accessory fuse block and the 12volt power outlet. I still have room for LEDs and my alarm and whatever.

That is not a bad idea. where did you mount the buss bar and get the relay. I ran wiring to a accessory  port thru a fused link to the battery, but it's hot all the time. I think I'll change it.
