I am in the process of replacing the "Propeller Shaft" as partzilla calls it, (Drive Shaft)
and the Pinion Joint (cup) as well  as the oil seal, but in the Clymer there is an O'ring that  goes under the cup (pg. 378 ,  #26)  I would like to replace it while I'm in there but I don't see it,  has anyone done this?  and is it deeper down in there?  ???

Thanks,
Wewa

Do you have the Honda Service Manual?

Get the PDF here,
http://valkyrienorway.com/download.html

I also like a hard copy, so also bought one to supplement it. A PDF for the computer (work, tablet, travel), and a hard copy for when I'm working on the bike at home.

ANYONE that is considering rebuilding their final drive, either with new parts or parts from a 1500 Wing, should read the post Mike posted.

Awesome post Mike!  And that wooden jig you made to hold the final drive is simple and a great engineering marvel.  Smiley

I never heard, how did the original final drive work out?  The one you rebuilt.

I installed the final drive a couple of days before the Corbin ride. I left the distance spacer down
at the house  Roll Eyes ...

The next afternoon, I re-installed the final drive with the distance spacer, and went for a test ride.
After 10 miles or so, I got off and looked at the drive, there was a drip of oil  Shocked ...

There was no time left, I put my normal drive back on so I could make the Corbin ride.

I determined that the drip of oil had collected in the groove that surrounds the oil filler hole.
Unless you fill your final drive on the bench or something, I bet everyone has a drip of
oil 10 miles after they fill.

I'll put the refurbished drive back on with the next tire... I didn't wear it out last year,
even though I went to Wisconsin, Kentucky, meet-in-the-middle, Crazy Horse's ride and it seems
like numerous other short rides...  ???

Good to hear Mike.  Glad you got it worked out.  Yea, I try real hard to wipe the oil out of that little groove, but it doesn't always work.  Some always drips and runs down the side of the pumpkin.

Thanks for the update.
