I posted on tech board but maybe can get some local help.
My alternator went out on a ride yesterday.
Got it off today.
How critical are the numbers.
Mine is LR140-722. Hitachi 8Y9.
See a lot on Ebay but doesn't state origin.
Since I just got the trike I want to put something on that will last.
Don't see any need for higher amps as only thing other than what came on bike is the trike kit with led tail lights and a gps.
Any info will be appreciated.  I would much rather be able to use your knowledge than have to learn by my mistakes.
Kind of a bummer finally got the trike last Monday and rode it Tuesday and then yesterday. Was planning on going to Lake Harris today but the alt. croaked on the way home yesterday.

If you are capable of working on it, check the  brushes, the tech board has some good articles on repairing it. the link to it is here.

Order one of these alternators for the Gold Wing.  You will need to take out the three screws that hold the sections of the alternator together and reclock it 120 degrees.  Put you old one beside the new one and you will see what needs to be done.  Turn the front cover to match the old one then put the long screws back in and install it.

'97 Goldwing Aspencade
Part # is 31100-MT2-015

The are about $100 cheaper than the Valkyrie alternator as I understand it.

Grumpy thanks for the reply.  Don't think I have enough nerve to try taking it apart.  Just about at my mechanical limit removing and replacing it.
Glad to hear you were able to get out of the house today.
Yesterday I had planned to be there today but then the alt croaked.
Thinking about the MARS rebuilt or the Gold Wing.
Are there any electrical shops in the area that you would trust to rebuild mine?

Thanks Thunderbolt I will explore the Wing alt.  I probably could manage to reposition the front portion of the alt.

None local that I know of. I have bought several from Mars and had good luck with them.

:)Thanks everyone.  I talked to Ken Heming at MARS and shipped my alternator off to him. He will send me a rebuilt one as soon as he receives mine.  Hopefully be back on the road by weekend after this.  That is if I can hold my tongue right to get the alternator back in place.
