We're leaving for Deal's Gap in a couple weeks. We'll be staying in Robbinsville, NC. I know - from the intranet and talking with people who have been there - that there's a number of other rides in the area besides the Dragon.  I was wondering if anyone has any advice on the ride, or ideas on a "can't miss" road, or even good food in the area?  Thanks~

Be sure to ride the Cherohala Skyway which is real close to the Dragon. It's fantastic and very scenic, Be careful on the Dragon. We were almost hit head-on by a rider coming from the opposite direction who was going faster then he should. He came over in our lane and was headed right at us. There was no place for me to go to avoid him and so I braced myself for the impact and somehow he managed to miss us. Some will probably disagree but I think the Blue Ridge Parkway (also fairly close to the Dragon) is much more enjoyable and again the scenery is beautiful. Lots of curves but they are all gentle sweepers, which I really enjoy. That whole area is a riders paradise and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Be careful and have a great ride. Hef

"The Road to Nowhere" is a nice short ride to a dead end with a tunnel. It is due north going out of Bryson City, NC. History behind it is the govt, when building the lake nearby offered to relocate the cemetary to the north shore and build a road so reletives could visit the gravesites. Got the road started then dropped it. The tunnel makes a nice shady walk thru it on a hot August day. Nice curves and scenery. Very little traffic.

Is this the same KW from Michigan, a.k.a. the Kilted Warrior?  If so, where the #*@#  have you been keeping yourself and the little lady? Didn't see or hear of you coming down here for the last couple years. Shoot me an email if I have the right person, you won't recognize the bike.  Grin

We have a vacation home on the TN side and if you email me, I'll send you a map. There are more roads than you can ride in a weeks time.

Misty Dragon, mountain high;
Smoke and leather, do or die;
On golden wings, angels fly;
To tame the dragon in the sky.

Road of thunder, metal flash;
Burning rubber, smoke and ash;
Road to glory, heaven’s gate;
Eleven miles where angels wait.
