We are going to be in Denver Colo. on the 14 of Aug. Our plan is to ride towards Glacier N. P. (we have been to it b4) and on into Canada thru. some of the Canadaian Rockies. We will have one chase car and four motorcycles, my Valk, st1100 and two Gw's --ten people in total.

question: what are good routes to take from GNP, places to stay over nite? cooldude We here some hotels go for $300 to $700 a nite crazy2

We like Mom & Pops hotels with a food place close by. $50 to $60 a nite.

Is it very likely we could find a place on the border and work from this hotel for day trips out & back?

Any info will be great!!

Thanks in advance!!!

If you cross the border at through Babb / Carway don't stay in Cardston, don't. Nothing happening there. Go north to Ft Mcleod, and west to Pincher Creek, reasonable accomodation and the start a a decent ride. Head north on Highway 22, long lazy turns, and beautiful sparse country. When you get to Longview Alberta, head west on Highway 40. This is a fantastic ride, and basically is the highest mountain pass in Canada, other than perhaps in the Yukon. Make sure you fill up in Longview, and the cops are all around Longview so forewarned, etc. Highway 40 is in a park, and it will be 100 miles of great road, to 7300 foot pass, and great scenery/pictures. You are going North by NW, and will end up at Highway 1 (TransCanada Highway). Head west towards Banff, but cut-off at the Exshaw turnoff, and take the back road to Canmore. You'll hook up with Highway 1 again. Take Highway 1, (freeway) into Banff, and enjoy the town. When you're heading west again, on Hiway 1, turn off at Johnson Canyon (1A). It paralells Hiway 1, and is a slower more scenic ride. If you like to hike, stop at Johnson Canyon, and take the hike. It's easy, and is on a boardwalk suspended above the river, and has a nice surprise at the end. It's free too. On the road again, take  Hiway 1 to Lake Louise. The scenerey is great. At Lake Louise go see the lake, but don't forget to stop at Maligne Lake, it's unbelievable. Then go west/NW and take the Jasper turnoff. This will blow you away. Have fun. Oh yea, hotels are expensive.

If/when you get to Jasper you may want to consider staying in Hinton rather than Jasper.  Hinton is an easy 45 minutes from the Townsite and has lots of motels etc to choose from, there are also a few spots on the highway just east of the Park.  Doubt that you will find anything in the $40 range but there are some mom and pop operations.

The Crowsnest (#3) that was recommended is real pretty, the Kootenays in BC may be less expensive for accommodation etc than the Rockies.

If you get to Jasper and like hotsprings make sure to check out Miette Hotsprings - there are cabins right there that you can rent, not sure of the costs.
