I was SO close to selling my valk.  Being 10 years old and big,I could use the money, I'm getting older, don't personally know anyone else with a valkyrie anymore, blah blah blah I had talked myself out of my bike and posted it for sale on craigslist.  I almost sold it last week but my girlfriend wanted to go for one more ride.  Well during the ride I had a blast, I had a few people compliment me on my bike, ( 1 being on a 2008 beautiful wing) and I realized I could never replace this bike.  My girlfriend asked me if I REALLY wanted to sell it, (I think she likes it alot) and I decided the answer is NO.  I was thinking of a roadglide, but to be honest, I'd feel like a lemming, having to have what all the fella's at work rode.  (although they all ride ultra classics and the like)  The road glide looked most like the valk but is still 10 years behind in performance  and technology.
I hope I can keep my bike on the road for at least another 10 years or so, or until Honda makes another kick-ass bike like the valk.  The chopper they came out with is a nice looking bike, but still NOT A VALK!

You can say that again! Unfortunately the guy with the vision behind the Valk, Joe Boyd died.. and no one at Honda since has had the vision to come up with anything close. http://www.valkyrienorway.com/STORY%20OF%20THE%20VALKYRIE.html

I know the feeling....I've thought hard about selling our '97 Valk a few times since we got the Boss Hoss trike in '02. But all I have to do is take her out for a spin and fall in love all over again.  Grin

Some of our Boss Hoss friends (who sold their Valks), said we'd never ride the Valk again after getting the Boss, but we found we like both so much that neither one sits idle for long. The Boss gets most of the long trip duty while the Valk faithfully takes me to work and wherever else I want to go on two wheels.  cooldude

If we ever get to a point where we need to unload toys, the Valk will be the last to go....

I was in the same frame of mind last year; I was going to sell my I/S due to my knees. My wife talked me into waiting until after my knee replacement surgery. Well that was a good move on my part when I listened to her. I had the surgery healed up and we began to ride again and like you when we’re out,  someone always comes up and wants to know what kind of bike it is or comments on how cool the bike is.  My buddy has a Wing 1800cc with all the LEDs and stuff and everyone huddles around the Valkyrie. He gets a little torque. Smiley

kruzen, I NEVER thought of the valk as an "around town, short hop"  type of bike, UNTIL I read your post!  I guess a boss hoss puts things into a bit of a different perspective Grin

Our pool of production Valk availability is much more limited than Harley but I believe we will be seeing Valkyries for years to come moving up and down the highways of America. Just as we see the knuckle's, pans and shovels still plodding along, people will see our rides and say, "what is that?", or " I knew a guy who had one of those.". Hopefully no one will ever hear me say,"I used to have one of those"! I would like to add another bike to the stable but for now the Valkyrie is number 1 for me.

I felt the same way, I got mad at mine, sick off working on it. I think I've had every single known Valkyrie problem. Even made a nice photo add and posted in Craig's List. When I added up my receipts and then thought about what their bringing now, I decided it would be "till death do us part" Mine must have been made on a Friday, but I would still surely regret selling it.

I just gotta quit reading these posts. As many of you know, my Valk is in the Classifieds.  The years and age has taken its toll on me, not my Valk.
I've had the Valk for 13 years now and it has been the only motorcycle that I've kept that long, no other one comes close in longevity and all around oerformance.

However, although my knees are good for walking, climbing steps, and relatively free of pain ( not qualified for replacement yet), these old knees "crunch" and hurt whenever I push the Valk around.

I tried the three wheels route, not for me.

I hope to find a good home for "Emanuel"

Solo1,

I missed my opportunity to meeting you in Frisco (kicking myself)   tickedoff

But,

I am planning on riding up to Chicago and then (intentionally) riding through New Haven, Indian to Canton,Ohio to see X-canuck and help him work on his bike.  It would be an honor to take you out to eat, I have great respect for you and I truely enjoy reading your posts.

You are family to many and I hope that when you sell what brought you to this forum, that you continue to be a regular.  Just cause you sell your bike doesn't mean you are no longer welcome..  Stick around !!  cooldude

My Odessa (99 I/S) will never be for sale. When I get to old to ride her I'll just set out in the shop drink a beer and look at her.

The next time you get the urge, just go to your nearest Harley dealer and rent one.  That should cure ya.   Wink

F6john, you got it spot on!
When I am out on the old '48 Panhead I tend to draw about the same size crowd of onlookers as when on the Valk. They come to look at the Harley because it sounds so good and is over 60 years old, and to see the Valk to see if that engine is really as big as it looks!  Shocked

Great story, a bike is just a thing, but the memories they store are priceless.

I see you live in Saint Louis. I stop there on my way back from Inzane and visited your Cabela's store. What a store, I have been ordering from them for years but this was the first time I had a chance to see one of their stores. Great prices on hand guns. I picked up a cap wasn't sure how I would like it but now wish I had got two or three, can't find them online. Hope to see you on the road and keep that Valk.
