just about ready to try a ct on the valk. But after reading some of the comments about getting use to the ct got me thinking.  I have two bikes a 05 roadstar 1700 and the valk.  I ride both of them about the same amount of miles a year 15,000 each.  by putting a ct on the valk is this going to cause me any trouble in getting use to the ct?   Undecided

My learning curve was 0.  I got on and could not tell the difference.  I rode it a while, and it started feeling a little bit queer sometimes... when I checked the tire pressure it was down a little.  I aired it back to my 1st guess at pressure (36 psi) and it's back to feeling normal.

0 learning curve for me.

Just me, but i really like it. Easy to get used to. I researched it for about a year before i put a ct on, don't know why i waited. Just remember you still have to lube those splines between 10 & 12 thousand miles.

A CT shouldn't cause much drama if you choose wisely.
Remember this,....if it looks like it belongs on a Buick,...don't use it!

I was quite hesitant before I finally took the plunge but when I did I read tons of reviews and talked with quite a few Valkers with CTs.

My CT of choice was the Kelly Springfield "Fierce HP" and for about $80.00, you can't go wrong.

P.S. It has a much rounder profile than in the picture.

I occasionally go back and forth between my valk with a CT, my son’s valk with a cobra and his Ducati with some very sticky tires. Going from one to the other is no problem except when I first pick his valk up off the side stand it feels “tipy”. After that first weird feeling all is good.

Only took me about 30 miles to decide it was for me. Half of that was in a frog-strangler
coming home from work at night! As far as "getting used to it", any time you switch from
one b rand of tire to another there will be an adjustment period, however short. Not to
mention you're going from a worn tire to a new one. Just give it enough time to make
sure you've got enough info to make a decision. Most people like it, some don't.

It wasn't for me.  It is the answer for quite a few.  Depends on your style & what matters to you, and how and where you ride.  Just try to keep an open mind and give it enough miles to make the decision for yourself.  It's YOU that has to like it - not the big mouths around you.  Oh yeah I suppose your squeeze has to like it too or your life will soon be miserable.  I wrote up my findings at http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/The_Darkside_-_Yea_or_Nay/the_darkside_-_yea_or_nay.html  Though I really liked the extra traction, not to mention lower cost and long life, I couldn't stand the handling.  Tire cost of bike tires is not really a concern for me - I can find the money for a new set every season.

I ran thru 3 car tires on two Valks. As long as I had a CT on both bikes I didn't notice the difference but when I put a motorcycle tire back on the Standard and then rode the I/S it was very noticeable to me. I won't say I'll never run another CT but plan to run MC tires for now on both bikes.

I go from riding a Valk with a car tire one day to riding a 400 pound KLR650 dirt bike (street legal) the next day...

It don't get much more drastic in changes than that.

I have no problem going from one to the other... so I doubt you'll have any trouble going from a Valk with a car tire to another cruiser that's similar in form with a bike tire.

If anything, having the other cruiser means that if you don't like the car tire, you have another bike to ride while you wait on a new bike tire.   cooldude
