Well, that's too small a tire to even think about matching the regular Dunlop EliteIII.
I'm just assuming you're talking about a 16" tire.
A 205/60/16 is supposed to be as close as you can come.
A 205/55/16 is smaller and a 205/65/16 is larger
You ought to go ahead and do a nut cage modification regardless.

Go with a GoodYear Triple Tread - 205/60/16.
Can't tell ya what the rpm change is, as I use the tach....... From the sound of my pipes I'd say it is real close.
My trip meter works all the time, the speedo take a rest every so often.

Most websites that sell car tires have a calculator so you can figure out what percentage difference a different wheel/tire size will make. Should be able to find out from that.

The way I computed it based on the tire diameter, at 60 mph, a 205/55/16 will raise your rpms about 150 over a stock Valk tire. A 205/65/16 will lower your rpms about 100.

Rainman I'm running a 205-55-16 michelin pilot and at 3500 rpm's the speedo shows the width of the needle just past 65 , so I noticed as long as I stay at 3500 rpm's my mileage has increased to 40 mpg and I have added the 6 deg. trig. wheel and it seems to working out just fine ... now once I start passing up the hd's on the hwy , well so much for good gas mileage .... now that 40 mpg is with my honey on the back so by myself I might add a couple miles ... at 8995 miles it still looks brand new ... when its time I'll try the 60 series ....

My 2CW. The 205 refers to the tread width in mm. The next number (55 65 etc) expresses the sidewall height as a percentage of the tread width. After you do all the math, you should be able to tell how much greater or smaller the circumference is relative to the stock tire size, as a percentage, and then calculate the change in RPM from there. I don't remember how to get from circumference to RPM, but the percentage difference should be close to actual. Someone posted a chart showing RPM vs speed in all gears but I don't recall where to find it just now. Hope this helps.

There is excellent info on the rpm / tire comparison in the "shop talk" page under Features on the main page. I used this info and a few articles available to research my conversion. I am riding the goodyear triple tread in a 205/60/16 and really like it. The size is as close to stock as possible and it looks great. Over 5k on it so far and no wear to report. I contemplated going up to the taller 65, but I chickened out and stayed with the 60 and the good results promised. I was a bit concerned with the taller tire rubbing the wire harness bracket. I flattened it down some regardless just to be sure. The 60 tire has never rubbed anything even when the suspension has bottomed out. My bike runs right at 3000 rpm at 65 mph which seems to be its / my sweet spot.

Eh? The tach measures RPMs.

Rainman, The 205/50 is the size for the Goldwing replacement I believe.
I put my Goodyear F1 on and got a good deal on it from a fellow that had purchased it for his wing. The RPM increase was SUBSTANTIAL. How substantial I can not remember exactly, But I used to like to keep the RPM gauge at the 3'ish mark and always knew that with error it was around 60. To maintain the same speed with the 50 you will be closer to the 3.5 mark as opposed to the 3.0 mark. Like I said, I don't remember exactly. (higher speeds I'd swear it ends up being around 300 to 400 higher) I do know that riding the interstate highways, my Rpm's would be 4k or higher to maintain the speed of traffic with the /50 series tire. As opposed to under 4k.
It kept playing in my head that I was adding x-times the number of revolutions on the motor to go the same 20+k miles I put on the tire before I removed it.
Do yourself a favor. Do the nutcage mod and put on a tire that more closely matches the original diameter of the MC tire.

Here is an online program that will show the rpm changes from 1 size tire to another. http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html

What brand of cartire in a 205-65-16 will fit the Valkyrie. I read a post from last week that said it would not fit. I have a friend with a 2000 Interstate that would like to go that size. Thanks.

I am running a 205/65 Nexen 5000. Does not rub anywhere and has the roundest profile of any car tire that I could find. It is my second CT. I removed the first one after 3500 miles because it was a 205/55 and I did not like the rpm increase. It also had a very flat profile and tried to guide the bike at slow speed over uneven terrain. The Nexen is a well made tire and very inexpensive. My next door neighbor has worked for Goodyear for 25 years and he bragged on the Nexen several times while BS'ing in my garage before I finally got it mounted....JTL
