I have a 99 I/S with S.S. Braided clutch, brake, throttle cables. The clear covering over them has colored with age. Any ideas on recovering them. I know I could just remove the covering and leave the braided line uncovered. But I would worry about scratching the tank when turning bars all the way to the right.

How about taking the covering off of the cables then putting clear tape on the tank where the lines would make contact.  Or leave the covering where the contact would take place.   Split a clear hose and slip  over the contact area.
I've been looking at mine too. I don't think they even make contact.

With the risers that are on the bike it barely makes contact on full turn. I could raise the bars a bit but the fit is pretty good . That's not a bad idea about leaving it on where it does contact and removing the rest.

As long as they function I wouldn't worry about it. But then, I'm a consummate minimalist

I'm 63 years old and have had a car since I was 15 and for the last 42 years have not been without a motorcycle.I have NEVER bought or did ONE thing for a car or motorcycle solely because I thought it was pretty or made the machine look better.

I think my Valkyrie has the same color scheme as yours. Is yours a '97 Tourer?

Remember......"patina" shows that you are a rider, not just an owner.

I'd leave it alone,....the fact that you changed to premium brake lines is an indication that you care about braking performance.
