Hey Fellow Valkaholics

It's time for the annual Solar Bear run to Texoma.  Patron (Stan Goodell) will be leading us from Celina to the one lane bridge into Oklahoma and then on to his family's property on Lake Texoma for that scintillating dive into the slightly cool waters and welcoming of the new year.

You can choose to meet Stan in Celina at 10:30am at the Brookshires Gas Station at 675 Sunset Blvd in Celina (just off of 289, which is also Preston Road) or get up earlier and join some of us in the parking lot next to Al Lamb's Dallas Honda.  We'll meet there at 9:00am and KSU at 9:30am for the hour's ride to Celina.  We'll go up 75 to the 455 exit and then take 455 west into Celina.  This is a really nice twisty road and a great way to wake yourself up Thursday morning.

Temperatures are going to be mild with highs around 60 degrees.  Not exactly polar bear, so it's "solar bear".

For you who made this ride a few years ago with Stan, you'll remember it as one of our best ones and it was the ride where Ron Overberg got his new handle of "Speedo".    You gotta' be there.

Since nothing good is on TV (none of my football teams are on) you might as well start on the new year right, riding your Valkyrie.

See you Thursday!

I hope to ride later in the day, but 10:30 am is a bit early for me to be ride-ready on 1 Jan.  Y'all have fun and take lots of pictures.

I hope the run on Speedos today does not drive the price up! Remember, black is slimming! ~Jeff

Well, if the liquor runs out early tonight, you can start your hangover earlier as well and maybe then be ready to ride at 10:30am.

The event we go to every year is really mild.  More likely to get a diabetic reaction from all the cookies than incapacitated due to drink.

My only issue will be my front tire.  I have a new one but haven't gotten it mounted yet.  If I do that today, then I'll feel better about the ride.

Bring your tire with and we can change it out at Stan's if that works for him, Mark? ~Jeff

Our polar/solar bear run started a little late from Al Lamb's due to problems with my battery finally giving out and taking time to change to a new battery and then jump it twice after putting everything back together three times.  It's a long story but the day got better from there.

Our intrepid 3 (Doc, Speedo and RainMaker) traveled to Celina and joined up with Patron and two of his riding buddies.  We met up with LemonDrop at the one lane bridge and then traveled into Oklahoma for a while before ending up at the Goodell lake home on Lake Texoma.

After lounging around for a while, we rode to Sherman to the Cracker Barrel where the wait time was 35-45 minutes for a large table.  Patron and his posse decided to head home at that point, so the 4 remaining riders went in and found it only took 15 minutes for 4.  So we waited and when seated, got some black eyed peas plus some good hot food.

Around 2:45, we left LemonDrop and headed down 75 back to Dallas.

It was a beautiful day to ride, nippy in the morning but warm by the afternoon.  Wish more would have been there, but hope that you had a nice day doing whatever you did.

Special thanks to Stan for leading the ride and letting us use his place on the lake.
