Just as a fly-in side note, Kermit Weeks will be closing Fantasy of Flight(Lakeland) pretty much for good to the public April 6th. For those that have not been there it is one of the best aircraft displays in the country. Sad to see it's public closing....

I used to go to Sun 'N Fun every year, even used to fly in when I was still active. I'd go this year but all the walking is out of the question at the moment. Guess there's always next year!

Sad news about Fantasy of Flight. I have been several times and he has a truly remarkable collection. I'm assuming that Saturday is the best day for Sun-N-Fun but I am off Sunday the 6th.

I'd heard that Fantasy of Flight would close for an estimated five years to build new hangers and other display areas, then reopen to the public. It would be good if reopened ahead of schedule. It's not a government job so I have high hopes it will.

WOW $47. kinda steep for an air show.  Never been so don't know what they have but it seems awfully expensive when the show at Macdill was free and we have one at the airbase near home in July that is also free.

Sun 'n Fun site says $37.00 daily and includes a bunch of stuff and into the evening and access (flight line, Air Museum and much more).  If you just want to see the air show, take the road north of the airport and park at the hotel or in the off road parking areas.  You'll get a great view of the show for free.

They have a motorcycle parking area just north of and closer to the entrance than the entrance to the  car parking areas.  I've never been charged to park there, it does has a separate entrance.

Thinking of going to Fantasy Of Flight before it closes. I have never been there and would love to see it. Thinking Thursday or Friday more like Thursday. Looks like I'll take the back way over the
Skyway to Bartow and up to Polk City. Met Kermit Weeks at the First Flight here in St. Pete on
Jan 1 and is a very nice guy. Anybody wants to ride along or meet up let's go.   cooldude

Dang! The price has gone up. I've been going every year since 2005.

I will probably ride up from West Palm Saturday or Sunday ... get there about 11 and leave after the Blue Angels.

Let me know if any of y'all are definitely going... would be great to meet up. I might be riding up with a friend who has a 2001 Tourer but it's as likely I'll be solo.

Billy Boy, holler at me when you head this way.  Depending on the time, maybe we can meet up for lunch.  I live about 10 miles away... And here's a coupon for a few bucks off the admission.

http://www.fantasyofflight.com/tickets/coupon/

I like the back roads south of Ft Lonesome to Bartow, good riding out there around Bethlehem loop and the mine roads that come up to Bartow from the south.

You coming 62 to 37 to 630 to 555 to 60 to 17 to Spirt Lake to Recker to 92 to Berkley to Polk City?

Thanks Greg.   cooldude  I'm going to try to get a friend of mine to ride with me. Looks like
I'll be going up 301 to Wimauma and up Balm Boyette Rd. to 640 then up US 17. I guess
maybe shoot over to 559 (Polk City Rd) on 92. Then to Fantasy of Flight. Is that the best way to go, as I want to avoid heavy traffic or is there a better way thru Lakeland? Shoot me a PM with
your Phone # if you want I'll send you mine so we can meet up for lunch or something.

I am going to  Sun & Fun, just not sure what day yet. I have a real close friend in the FAA and he always gets me in for free with him.  Glad of that as admission is getting expensive.

Bill, if I could walk comfortably I'd try to meet you there. But right now, I'm good long enough to buy a few groceries before the back starts screaming at me. Think it's time for another shot like I had about 12 yrs. ago.
