I'm replacing my headlight bulb. Should I run the Sylvania H4 9003 Silverstar or the next step up the Silverstar Ultra?

 https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/products/automotive/Pages/silverstar-ultra.aspx

Or do you have another suggestion. Thanks

I have a silver star. It works fine. No experience with the ultra. Buy the best you can afford.

Well, since you asked. Here's an alternative that I've had very good success at. In my own personal experience, the PIAAs outlast the Sylvania Silverstars that I've run. The Sylvanias averaged about a year per bulb. My PIAAs are going on 3 yrs. The PIAAs just seem to have a stronger filament that holds up to vibration better.

Those Piaa's are fine bulbs a little pricey but if one of my HID's go out again I will probably go back to the Piaa for the effected side.

For the money the Silver Star Ultras are a good bulb ran them in my truck for a few years with no issues....

Really depends on how bright you want it out front and how much money your willing to spend on them and maybe how often your willing to swap them out... I don't recommend the cheapest bulbs you can get they just aren't that bright. After my deer strike with my truck I swapped out to a set of EL CHEEPO china bulbs that were supposed to be 100watt bulbs and they are NOT as bright as the Silver Star ultra's not by a long shot.

YMMV!

Heck, $45 for 2 bulbs is cheaper than Silver Star Ultras.  I might have to give these a shot.
Thanks Wiggy!

My Silver Star Ultra lights last about a year.  There are some roads down here that are as rough as a cobb!  I am interested to see if the PIAA bulbs can last 3 years on my gal.

Thanks everyone. I bought 2 new unopened  Sylvania Silverstar Ultras on ebay for $26 with free shipping! Will see how it goes. The PIAAs sound interesting but I'd already bought these so .... next time maybe.

Kuryakyn hi-intensity bulbs available from Competition Accessories for $15.99 here:
http://www.compacc.com/p/Kuryakyn-Replacement-Headlight-Bulbs

I've used 130/90 bulbs from compacc since 1999 with no bad effects to the lens or reflector.

Two relays from any automotive store, a few feet of 14ga or bigger wire, and an inline fuse, and a ceramic H4 plug from NAPA, about $30. Total about $45, a saturday afternoon, and you have a headlight that will last about 3 years between bulb changes and light up the road WELL for 1/2 mile on high beam.  Other riders will ask you to lead night rides as you have the best road lighting.
