Thanks everyone. Rita is taking me out to dinner this evening at a rather nice place so I guess I have to shower, change my underwear, and put on some shoes.  So far today the old back seems to be doing OK. A special b'day gift from above. |

I just had a nice surprise from my daughter Toni in Wisconsin. She's the one that kept everyone up to date two years ago when I had my coronary. I was headed out back to take some pictures to send to them, they're coming next week for a visit and wanted to know what the weather is like. Her husband, Andy, said he doesn't think the sun has shone since last June and he's sick of the gloomy weather. Just as I headed out, the phone rang and it was Toni, asked what I was doing....told her I was about to take the pictures. She told me I need to answer the front door....and at the same time the doorbell rang. Lo and behold, here stands an old school buddy of hers, with a huge birthday cake in her hands. And as many of all my different daughter's gal friends used to say....Happy Birthday dad and handed me the cake.
Funny how you remember such things, so many of them called me "dad" and I never really understood why. I just know my four girls were proud of the fact their friends were that comfortable around me.

Had a great dinner and they gave me dessert on the house. OOooohh.....where's the AlkaSeltzer! Rita's daughter called ahead when she found out where we were going, had a nice sized gift card waiting for me when we checked in. Trouble is....I used it up big time. How many AlkaSeltzers can you take in a 12 hr. period?  |
