One of the two large vent lines that are open above the motor toward the back. Below the air box.
I think they are attached to the fuel rails. They are held in place by some wraparound metal bendable brackets. It leaks when the peacock in the on position and the engine running. Does not leak when I put the petcock in the off position and have the motor running. It does not leak when the motor is not running. Just started the bike for the first time this spring. I store it in my basement and usually do not run the bike out of gas before I put it up for the winter. This year I did, so the floats were dry. No idea if that contributed.

I was thinking stuck float/needle valve as a culprit........so maybe the dry carbs was a contributor............some say to tap the bowls with a mallet

Is that where the excess gasoline would leak from? This is a sizable amount leaking. If a float sticks open, what would happen? That bowl would fill up. Where would the excess gas go? Is there an overflow pathway to the line where this gas is leaking from?

Well, I think it was a float stuck open. And I think it took care of itself. Just went out and started it, no leaking. Leaves with a little less confidence in the fuel system though. And btw, thats the last time I run the float bowls empty at the end of the riding season.

Romeo another place for the leak would be the fuel rails in the same vicinity as those overflows you referred to. The rails are found between the carbs and deliver gas to each carb. So you could have more than one site where there is leakage. If the bike was stored for a period of time, the Orings at the ends of the rails can dry out. So, when you get back to the bike you got a leak. Let bike sit for a couple of days and see if you still have leak. If you don't, the gas that went by the Oring was enough to swell it /them and stop the leak. If it continues to leak, you probably have a float (s) that is hung up. A tap on the float bowl may release it or them. Be careful with this situation and don't let it evolve to a hydrolock.

Just went out and started her again. No leak this time either. Hydro lock is in my thoughts though, now. I will keep close eye on her and be sure and touch the starter a cpl time before starting the bike.

When I had this issue and the fuel rail o-ring leaks I ran a couple tanks of gas with marvel mystery oil mixed in. The leaks stopped till I received the parts to rebuild the carbs.
